Ever since the first movie did so well in theaters, people have been talking about making another F1 film. Variety first reported that a sequel was being considered, and the Financial Times later suggested Apple might be interested in creating a whole series of movies based on it.
I was so excited when Tim Cook mentioned it during his interview with Variety at the Emmys! He basically confirmed they’re seriously considering making a sequel. He said it’s been a massive hit for them this summer and that they’re really proud of it, and he even gave a shout-out to the amazing cast, especially Brad Pitt! It feels like a sequel is really happening now.
The film was a hit with both critics and audiences when it was released. It successfully introduced Formula 1 racing to a broader audience and proved that racing stories can appeal to many people.
Director Joseph Kosinski has shared that they’re already starting to plan a potential sequel. He mentioned they’re brainstorming ideas for what happens next with the character Sonny Hayes and the APXGP world. Given the positive global response to the movie, he expressed enthusiasm about returning to make another one, as the production process was very enjoyable.
The movie features Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a former Formula 1 driver making a comeback after a long absence. Joseph Kosinski directed the film, and Ehren Kruger wrote the screenplay. The cast also includes Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Javier Bardem.
I was really impressed learning about how much access the filmmakers had! Production on this movie started in 2023, and they weren’t just shooting around Formula 1 – they were actually filming at real race weekends, with the full cooperation of the FIA and several of the teams. What’s even cooler is that Lewis Hamilton wasn’t just in front of the camera; he was a producer on the project, helping to bring it all to life.
The movie was a huge hit when it came out in June, becoming one of the year’s biggest releases. It grossed over $600 million globally and broke records for both Apple Studios and Brad Pitt. Viewers loved it, and critics praised its exciting racing scenes and stylish presentation.
Given how well the film has done, it’s no surprise Apple and the creators are considering making more installments.
