Fans of the musical Wicked are delighted with the release of a previously unseen scene showing Jonathan Bailey and Ethan Slater, who play Fiyero and Boq, without their shirts.
I was so excited when I heard about this! Last year, Bowen Yang, who’s in ‘Wicked,’ hinted on Trisha Paytas’ podcast that there was some extra footage out there. Everyone was wondering what it was, and now we finally get to see it online! It’s great they finally released it.
On Friday, Entertainment Tonight released a deleted scene from the upcoming Wicked movie. The scene features Elphaba (played by Cynthia Erivo), Glinda (Ariana Grande), Nessarose (Marissa Bode), Fiyero, and Boq happily skipping class and spending a relaxed day together in the woods.
The group enjoys a day of badminton and a picnic, creating joyful moments together. Alongside this, we see glimpses of what’s to come: Boq with an axe, foreshadowing events from the musical Wicked; a tender kiss between Fiyero and Glinda; and Elphaba gifting Glinda a pair of black boots.

Fiyero takes off his shirt after working hard chopping wood, and both Glinda and Elphaba are clearly impressed. Not to be left out, Boq playfully removes his shirt as well, which makes Nessarose happy.
Yang explained the scene was removed because Christian Slater’s muscular build made it difficult to portray his character, Boq, as insecure when standing next to Fiyero. As Yang put it on the podcast, “He is very fit under that shirt.”
After the song ‘Popular,’ they filmed a sequence showing the characters—Fiyero, Glinda, Elphaba, Nessa, and Boq—as friends, having fun together in a field. There was a specific scene with Boq and Fiyero, played by Jonathan Bailey and Ethan Slater, where they took their shirts off. The intention was to show Jonathan Bailey’s physique.
Yang explained that Boq imitates Fiyero because he’s insecure and wants to be seen as attractive. He playfully added, “But then he realizes Ethan is already in great shape!”
Even if the deleted scene doesn’t alter the overall plot of Wicked, fans are excited to watch these lighthearted, playful moments. It offers a charming glimpse into the characters’ friendships before the story gets more serious.
