Jim Carrey is potentially joining the cast of a live-action movie based on the classic cartoon *The Jetsons*, which Warner Bros. is currently developing. *Jurassic World* director Colin Trevorrow is also being considered to direct the film.
Carrey in Talks for George Jetson Role
I’m so excited to hear Jim Carrey is potentially taking on another big movie role! He’s been amazing as Dr. Robotnik in the *Sonic the Hedgehog* movies – those films have made over $1.2 billion globally, which is incredible! And he’s coming back for *Sonic the Hedgehog 3* as Gerald Robotnik, so that’s something to look forward to!
Okay, so this is still very early days, but I’m hearing some exciting buzz about a potential live-action *Jetsons* movie! The rumor mill is spinning that Jim Carrey is being considered to play George Jetson – can you imagine? – and apparently, director Colin Trevorrow and writer Joe Epstein are already working on the script. Nothing’s official yet, but the idea of Carrey as George is definitely intriguing!
Bringing ‘The Jetsons’ Into the Future
The classic cartoon *The Jetsons* first appeared on ABC in 1962 and ran for a year, then returned with new episodes in the mid-1980s. The show imagined a futuristic world with conveniences like flying cars and robotic helpers, and it centered on the everyday life of the Jetson family—George, Jane, their daughter Judy, and son Elroy. Their robot maid, Rosie, became incredibly popular and a well-known figure in pop culture.
The animated movie released in 1990 earned a little over $20 million in the United States. Warner Bros. has repeatedly tried to bring back classic Hanna-Barbera characters and shows, but with varying degrees of success.
Warner Bros. Revisits Hanna-Barbera Classics
In the early 2000s, the studio had a hit with its live-action *Scooby-Doo* movies. Directed by Raja Gosnell and written by James Gunn, the two films together made almost $500 million and starred Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard, and Linda Cardellini.
Warner Bros. believes a new version of *The Jetsons* could resonate with modern viewers by tapping into both fond memories of the original and broad popular tastes.
DC Comics’ take on The Jetsons
In 2018, DC Comics published a six-part comic book series that offered a fresh take on *The Jetsons*. Written by Jimmy Palmiotti, the story updated the classic cartoon with a more realistic and dramatic feel, exploring themes of family and the impact of technology in a modern future.
I’m really excited about this new take on The Jetsons! It’s cool how they’ve made George a more relatable guy, just trying to figure out life in a super-tech future. And Jane isn’t just a housewife anymore – she’s a scientist working off-world, which is awesome! Judy’s storyline is interesting too, she’s trying to find her place in the world, and little Elroy is going wild with robotics. But the biggest surprise? George’s mom isn’t just around anymore – her personality is *inside* Rosie the robot! It makes Rosie so much more than just a maid; she’s a part of the family in a really emotional way.
The DC version of *The Jetsons* mixes humor, science fiction, and family issues, offering a much more complex story than the cheerful cartoon from the 1960s.
