Jesse Eisenberg to Donate Kidney to Stranger, Sparks Curiosity Over Motives

Jesse Eisenberg, the actor from movies like The Social Network and Now You See Me, recently revealed he’s donating a kidney to someone he doesn’t know. He shared the news on the TODAY show on October 30th, highlighting his incredible generosity.

“I’m actually donating my kidney in six weeks. I really am,” Eisenberg said during the live segment.

He explained that he’s been inspired to donate blood. ‘I’m really looking forward to it,’ he said on the TODAY show, adding that he plans to donate in mid-December because he wants to help others.

He also told TODAY.com that the opportunity is practically without risk and incredibly valuable. He believes people will quickly see it’s an easy decision if they have the time and are interested.

Eisenberg explained how kidney donation can work. He used an example: “Imagine someone in Kansas City needs a kidney, and their intended donor isn’t a match. But, for some reason, I am. That’s how it could happen,” he said.

I’m hoping that person can still donate a kidney, and maybe even their child too. The idea is that the kidney would go to a central registry where they can find someone who’s a good match. But this system really only works if there’s someone willing to donate out of the goodness of their heart – an altruistic donor.

Eisenberg first thought about making the donation around ten years ago, but his initial attempt to contact the organization went unanswered.

A doctor recently recommended he go to NYU Langone Health in New York City. He explained, “I was at the hospital the very next day and had a lot of tests done. I now have an appointment scheduled for mid-December.”

Eisenberg revealed he’s made arrangements to prioritize his family if any of them ever need a kidney donation. He explained that this is made possible through the National Kidney Registry’s program, which ensures his family wouldn’t face any risk in the process.

Eisenberg’s willingness to help others goes beyond donating a kidney. He’s also been a regular blood donor for years and playfully described his dedication in an interview. “I just feel like I have a lot of blood to share, and I enjoy doing it, even though I’m not sure why,” he explained.
