The former talk show host recently shared details about his personal life and was taken aback by a question he received. On Maria Shriver’s podcast, ‘Life Above the Noise,’ Leno revealed someone asked if he considered dating while Mavis is ill, a question that clearly upset him.

Jay Leno, married to Mavis for 45 years, was surprised by the idea. He emphasized that he still takes his marriage vows very seriously. “It’s shocking to people when you actually keep the promises you make when you get married,” he shared in a recent podcast interview.

Jay Leno recently shared a funny and slightly awkward encounter he had with a fan. The man asked if Leno was looking to date, which Leno found strange considering he’s been happily married to Mavis for decades. Leno quickly replied, “No, I have a girlfriend – I’m married!” He emphasized that after so many years together, he and Mavis remain committed to each other, and he never considered leaving or finding someone else.

In 2024, it became known that Mavis Leno was diagnosed with a health condition, leading Jay Leno to become her conservator. Since then, Jay has openly discussed how their lives have changed. He explained that taking care of Mavis is simply a natural part of the commitment they made to one another. As he put it, they had an understanding that they would support each other through thick and thin, and that commitment shouldn’t fade when times get tough.

During the podcast conversation, Maria Shriver discussed the challenges of caregiving, sharing her personal involvement with Alzheimer’s advocacy and highlighting how often caregivers go unrecognized. She explained that millions of people are quietly providing care for family and friends daily. Jay Leno acknowledged this but didn’t see his own situation as heroic, stating he’s simply doing what he feels is right.

“I’m simply doing what I believe is right,” Leno explained. He noted that loyalty used to be a given, but it feels less common these days. He shared that while his life hadn’t presented major difficulties until now, taking care of his wife feels like a true challenge. “I believe I made the correct choice,” he concluded.
