In light of David Corenswet’s Superman enjoying box office success and Milly Alcock’s Supergirl set to appear next year within the DC Universe, DC fans eagerly anticipate when Batman and Wonder Woman will make their debut. As of now, neither character has been confirmed for James Gunn’s upcoming DCU, but a tiny piece of news has emerged.
When talking to Urbana Play radio, James Gunn from DC Studios emphasized that the writing process is crucial. He mentioned that both scripts are currently being developed and nothing will progress until they’re finalized. In his words, “We won’t move forward until the scripts are ready.” At this moment, both scripts are being written, and if they turn out well, production will start right away. Gunn also clarified that he would rather delay a year than rush into production with a script that isn’t exceptional for the characters who deserve nothing less. He prioritizes delivering quality over quickness.
Gunn has emphasized the importance of robust screenplays before embarking on a film project. He’s revealed that his decision to make Supergirl next was due to its exceptional script, while Clayface was also chosen based on Mike Flanagan’s gripping horror-script. As for Batman and Wonder Woman, their scripts are currently under development. Gunn has made it clear that he will only proceed if the final drafts meet his expectations.
In the works is a film titled “The Brave and the Bold” for Batman, where he’ll star alongside his son Damian Wayne as Robin. Previously, it was characterized by Gunn as “a unique tale about their relationship, inspired by Grant Morrison’s portrayal of Batman“. The depiction of Batman in this movie will differ from that of Robert Pattinson’s Batman, which persists in its own distinct universe known as Elseworlds.
Recently, during a conversation with GamesRadar+, I learned that director James Gunn has shared a snippet of news about the upcoming Batman film. To my delight, he mentioned there hasn’t been any significant progress as of now, but a talented screenwriter is currently immersed in crafting the script for this highly anticipated project.
Regarding Wonder Woman, there’s not much new information to share at this point. Earlier this year, James Gunn confirmed plans for a new film following DC’s cancellation of the third movie featuring Gal Gadot. However, as of now, no actress has been selected for the role. When fans suggested Adria Arjona for the part, Gunn responded positively, calling her “great,” but emphasized that it’s premature to make any definitive statements.
On the other hand, a prequel series titled “Paradise Lost” about Wonder Woman is in production. This show will delve into the island of Themyscira, home to the Amazons, prior to Diana’s era.
At present, both Gunn and DC enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the outcome of the script development for Batman and Wonder Woman. Should Gunn approve of these scripts, the films might arrive earlier than anticipated. However, until a decision is made, everything remains uncertain.
Meanwhile, Superman is in theaters now, and Supergirl will be flying in next year.
