James Gunn Shuts Down DCU Batman Script and Test Screening Rumors

James Gunn, one of the heads of DC Studios, is still working to correct inaccurate information about his plans for the DC Universe, particularly regarding Batman.

A social media user on Threads shared a screenshot of a post stating that the script for the upcoming DC film, The Brave and the Bold, directed by Andy Muschietti, is finished and Warner Bros. is aiming for a 2028 release.

However, Gunn quickly shot down the rumor (note: we didn’t bother to post news about it).

When a fan asked if a recent report was accurate, James Gunn quickly dismissed it, stating, “It’s not true – the script isn’t done yet.”

Fueling the ongoing rumors, a fan also wondered if a private screening of the movie had taken place last year.

Gunn denied the report, explaining, “It’s odd because the film hasn’t begun filming yet.”

What is going on with Brave and the Bold?

Development on Brave and the Bold and James Gunn’s DC Universe plans appears to be paused while Warner Bros. Discovery is being sold.

Andy Muschietti has shared that he’s currently unable to discuss a certain topic, and fans will need to wait a few months for updates.

After we reported that James Gunn’s plans for the DC Universe were uncertain, Gunn himself confirmed our reporting in a YouTube video and through industry publications. He acknowledged that the DCU isn’t finalized.

Gunn even expressed a desire for a truly spectacular Batman, implying that the previously announced Brave and the Bold series and the Batman planned for the DC Universe are currently on hold and contingent on a change in leadership.

Insiders have also said WB is concerned about what Gunn will do with Batman, DC’s biggest IP.

While fans are eager to learn more about James Gunn’s plans for the DC Universe, Matt Reeves is about to begin filming the sequel to The Batman.

Gunn also starts production on Man of Tomorrow, his Superman family follow-up, this year.
