I’ve been hearing rumors that Warner Bros. is growing increasingly frustrated with James Gunn‘s online actions, as they seem to be causing more harm than good in the grand scheme of things.
The statement suggests that the claim is based on Gunn debunking a recent speculation about Robin being included in Matt Reeves’ script for “The Batman Part II.
What did James Gunn say?
Gunn replied to the rumor:
friends, let’s not fall for false rumors. So far, among us, only six people have read the script, and none of us possess any real information regarding The Batman 2.

Jeff Sneider Blasts Gunn
According to reports from entertainment insider Jeff Sneider, who seems to have some reservations about Gunn’s management style, he publicly criticized the head of DC Studios during an appearance on “The Hot Mic” YouTube show.
Frankly, James Gunn’s words no longer hold much significance for me. In my opinion, he has become an overbearing studio head who consistently comes across as irritating to many people. I doubt his behavior is endearing him to others, even on the Warner Bros. lot where I believe his actions are seen as bothersome.
Sneider also jabbed Gunn over Superman’s box office:
friend, it appears highly likely that your film could earn around $600 million. If we can use the term ‘L’ for loss in this context, accept it gracefully and move on. Move on, concentrate more on reading scripts, creating movies, and producing TV shows since you seem to be well-compensated for investing substantial time on Bluesky and Threads.

Early Digital Release Adds Fuel to the Fire
As a devoted fan, I’m not surprised that Sneider’s $600M prediction might be on target, considering my initial guess of $630M. Warner Bros.’ recent announcement that Superman will debut digitally this coming Friday, just 35 days after its theater premiere, is a clear sign that the box office performance may not be as robust as anticipated, particularly in international markets. This swift digital release could potentially cause some discontent among exhibitors who are counting on theatrical revenues.
Online fans are predominantly displeased with the early release, perceiving it as premature and detrimental to the movie’s theatrical experience. Some interpret this move as a negative indicator for James Gunn’s freshly initiated DC Universe.
A Divisive Start for the DCU
Right from the start, the movie version of Superman has divided public opinion. Some people adored it while others strongly disliked it. Whether the film’s less-than-stellar performance at the box office will impact the future of the DC Universe is yet to be determined.
On a favorable note, WB might consider it as the starting point for their fresh DC Universe – just like how Iron Man ignited the Marvel Cinatic Universe or Batman Begins paved the way for The Dark Knight Trilogy.
From my perspective, it’s quite evident that my take on Superman, namely Superman, isn’t performing as well compared to my other Guardians of the Galaxy films. Moreover, it falls significantly short of Zack Snyder’s masterpieces, Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
