Experts believe the upcoming movie, “Avengers: Doomsday,” has the potential to be the year’s biggest box office hit in 2026.
A recent Bloomberg survey of over 700 people working in the entertainment industry predicted which movies will be the biggest hits. While another Avengers film is expected to earn the most, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” came in second. Live-action “Moana” and “Minions 3” are both predicted to do well, but not as strongly.

Marvel fans have a lot to look forward to! The new movie, “Avengers: Doomsday,” is the fifth Avengers film and the 39th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s directed by the same team behind the hit film “Avengers: Endgame,” and stars a huge cast including Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hiddleston, Paul Rudd, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, and many others.
Okay, so here’s the deal: the latest Avengers movie absolutely crushed it at the box office, even beating out the incredibly popular ‘Super Mario Bros. Movie.’ Bloomberg pointed that out, and it’s a pretty big deal considering how huge Mario was expected to be. It just shows you the staying power of the Avengers franchise – they still dominate when they come back.
On average, Avengers movies earn about $1.9 billion worldwide, with “Avengers: Endgame” bringing in an impressive $2.8 billion. Despite the fact that older films came out before the pandemic and recent changes in Marvel’s success, expectations are high for the new release.

The movie’s production went through some interesting changes. Originally, two Avengers films – The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars – were intended to finish Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But with new directors, including the return of Anthony and Joe Russo, and a co-writing contribution from Michael Waldron, the story evolved and gained the subtitle Doomsday. Filming happened at Pinewood Studios in England, with additional scenes shot in Bahrain, and concluded in September.
According to a Marvel representative who spoke with The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming film is designed to be a huge celebration bringing together many of the most popular heroes. It’s set to premiere in the U.S. on December 18, 2026, and will be followed by a sequel, Secret Wars, on December 17, 2027.
