Though he’s most recognized for his role as the X-Men character, his career boasts successful films like Les Misérables, The Greatest Showman, and The Prestige.

Jackman’s ability to transform into different characters isn’t just luck; he actively studies classic films for inspiration. In a recent interview with Rotten Tomatoes, he discussed the movies that have most influenced his approach to acting.

He singled out The Deer Hunter, the 1978 Vietnam War drama starring Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep, as a particularly important film that fundamentally changed his perspective on storytelling.

Jackman recalled first watching the film at age fifteen, and it had a profound impact on him. He said it completely changed his perspective on acting, showing him it could be a powerful way to explore deep emotions and difficult experiences – far more than just simple entertainment.

I remember hearing about how Raiders of the Lost Ark totally changed things for Hugh Jackman. He was only eleven or twelve when he first saw Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones, and he said the feeling of adventure was just overwhelming! He actually told his brother he didn’t even know a movie could make you feel that way – it completely pulled him into the story and he was lost in that world. It’s amazing to think one film could have such an impact on someone!

He was immediately drawn to the first Indiana Jones film because it expertly blended thrilling action with comedy. He recalled being completely gripped by the story, yet still laughing throughout. As a young viewer, it wasn’t just entertainment – it felt incredibly real and evoked a feeling he hadn’t experienced before.

Hugh Jackman started the year with a packed schedule, recently appearing in the movie Song Sung Blue, released in January. He plays Mike Sardina, a performer in a Neil Diamond tribute act, and is almost unrecognisable with long hair alongside co-star Kate Hudson.

As someone who really appreciates a darker take on classic stories, I’m super excited about Hugh Jackman’s new movie! It’s called The Death of Robin Hood, and it’s coming out June 19th. Hugh Jackman is also lending his voice to an animated comedy called The Sheep Detectives, which will be released on February 26th. The funny film stars Emma Thompson and Nicholas Braun, and tells the story of a group of sheep trying to figure out who killed their shepherd.
