Back in February of 2019, more than five years ago, Silksong was first unveiled as a separate continuation of the original game. Initially planned as a DLC expansion, the project soon expanded and Australian studio Team Cherry decided to develop it into a complete sequel instead.
The narrative unfolds around Hornet, former foe-turned-ally of The Knight from the initial game, who is now captured and transported to a distant kingdom. Unlike the previous game, Hornet’s gameplay showcases her unique abilities and adopts a more rapid tempo in this new adventure.
There’s been a persistent rumor that Silksong could reveal significant details, but over the years, we’ve mostly seen hints without much concrete information. The game’s Steam page has undergone numerous updates since then, and there have been several announced release dates that ultimately didn’t materialize between 2019 and now. Moreover, it’s been featured in various presentations, most recently at the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, and is rumored to be launching on or before Xbox’s portable PC device.
In 2023, the game was made available on the Microsoft Store. Soon after, age ratings for the game popped up on classification boards in Korea and Australia. This usually means that all the content is finalized but there’s still work to be done to polish it, suggesting that the game was nearly ready for release.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that this game is compatible with both Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox’s PC handheld! Showcased at Gamescom, this news has certainly generated quite a buzz, and the best part? It’s set to be available on almost every platform out there. That means, no matter which device you prefer, you’ll have the chance to join in the fun!
