Filming for the new Highlander movie is moving forward again now that Henry Cavill has returned to set. Mail Online reports that Cavill and Dave Bautista were recently seen filming scenes together at Westminster Abbey in London.
As a huge fan, I was so relieved to see Henry Cavill back on set! After a training injury sidelined him last year, I was worried about production. But he’s clearly recovered and looks incredible. It’s awesome to hear he’s already diving into the intense action sequences as Connor MacLeod – he really embodies that immortal warrior!

Filming at the historic site seemed very demanding. Henry Cavill was made up with fake bruises and blood, and he wore a leather jacket, combat trousers, and a dark hoodie. During some action-packed scenes, both Cavill and Dave Bautista were hoisted on wires above a car. Siobhan Cullen also participated, riding a motorbike through the sequence.

Dave Bautista was barely recognizable in his role as the villain, The Kurgan. He transformed with long, slicked-back hair, a full beard, and lots of fake blood, portraying a menacing priest-like figure. Despite playing enemies on screen, Bautista and his co-star seemed friendly and happy during breaks in filming, often sharing laughs.

This movie is a remake of the popular 1986 film, Highlander. The original story centers on an immortal Scottish warrior who can only be killed by losing his head. The film became a hit on VHS and spawned a whole franchise, including sequels, TV series, and novels.
Someone jokingly declared their immortality, claiming to have royal blood! This was likely a reference to a moment between Henry Cavill and Dave Bautista while filming the movie Highlander.

The new version of this film stars Russell Crowe, Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, and Jeremy Irons. It’s directed by Chad Stahelski, who also directed all the John Wick movies.
During CinemaCon in April 2024, Henry Cavill discussed his role and hinted at even more impressive action sequences than fans have seen from him before. He jokingly suggested that his sword fighting skills would be taken to a whole new level, saying, ‘If you thought you’d seen me do sword work before, you haven’t seen anything yet.’
Filming for the project happened throughout Scotland, at famous spots like Eilean Donan Castle and Glen Coe. The story follows immortal warriors engaged in a hidden conflict that has lasted for centuries.
The announcement that Henry Cavill is back on set arrives as people are still discussing who should be the next James Bond. While Aaron Taylor-Johnson is currently the frontrunner according to betting odds, Cavill remains a strong contender in the debate.
