Foundation Prada is planning to debut an upcoming exhibition titled “Satellites,” created by video game legend Hideo Kojima and filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn. This latest project from their long-standing friendship and creative partnership delves into the “universal idea of connection” spanning languages, geographical boundaries, and artistic mediums.
The showcase, located at Prada Aoyama in Tokyo, transports visitors into a mid-century home setting, reflective of their shared cinematic style. In the central area, six televisions with a retro-futuristic vibe play artists engaged in contemplative discussions centered around themes such as identity, technology, death, and what persists beyond.
As I delve into this gaming experience, a trusty cassette player and an enticing stack of tapes reside within an adjacent dressing room. The captivating blend of cinematic scores with the artist’s discussions translated into multiple languages create a puzzle for each gamer to solve. Each visitor gets to piece together their own interpretation of the dialogue in a distinctive, personalized listening journey.
Satellites reveal the enchanting harmony between two far-off objects, capturing their rhythmic changes. Kojima and Rejn envision a shared tomorrow imbued with poetic potential, implying that connectivity may not elude us despite the ever-changing digital terrain, but rather flourish within it.
The exhibition will open in Tokyo on April 18 and remain on view through August 25.
