We’ve put together brief summaries of the most popular titles, including details about the cast, plot, and upcoming release plans, so you can stay informed about what’s trending.
‘Ballad of a Small Player’ (2025)

Directed by Edward Berger, this movie is based on Lawrence Osborne’s novel and follows a British lawyer who has fallen from grace as he navigates the dangerous world of gambling in Macau. The film stars Colin Farrell, Fala Chen, Deanie Ip, Alex Jennings, and Tilda Swinton. It first premiered at the Telluride Film Festival in 2025, had a short run in theaters, and became available on Netflix in late October. Good Chaos, Nine Hours, and Stigma Films were the production companies involved.
‘The Running Man’ (2025)

Edgar Wright’s new film is based on Stephen King’s dystopian novel (originally published under the name Richard Bachman), and stars Glen Powell as the main character, Ben Richards. Paramount Pictures is releasing the movie, with sneak peeks shown at CinemaCon and New York Comic Con. The film also features music by Steven Price and cinematography by Chung-hoon Chung, and is currently receiving early reviews as it prepares for release in November 2025.
‘Baramulla’ (2025)

This thriller, set in India, centers around a police officer investigating missing children in the town of Baramulla. As the disappearances become more unsettling, the officer uncovers supernatural elements that also begin to affect his own family. The project is currently slated for release in 2025, with updates available online. Details about the cast and crew can be found in publicly available records.
‘Black Phone 2’ (2025)

Scott Derrickson directed this sequel, a collaboration between Universal and Blumhouse. The film brings back Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, and Ethan Hawke, and welcomes new cast member Demián Bichir. It first screened at Fantastic Fest and was released in the U.S. in October, quickly becoming the number one movie domestically during its opening weekend – performing better than the original film’s debut. Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill wrote the screenplay together.
‘Nuremberg’ (2025)

As a huge cinema fan, I’m really intrigued by this new historical drama. It’s directed by James Vanderbilt, and it’s based on the fascinating true story detailed in Jack El-Hai’s book, ‘The Nazi and the Psychiatrist.’ The film centers around Douglas Kelley, an American army psychiatrist, and his work evaluating top Nazi figures like Hermann Göring. The cast is incredible – Rami Malek, Russell Crowe, Leo Woodall, John Slattery, and Michael Shannon all star! I saw it premiered at TIFF, and it’s now in theaters – it opened on November 7th, distributed by Sony Pictures Classics. Be prepared for a long but, I suspect, gripping watch – it runs for 148 minutes.
‘Good Fortune’ (2025)

Aziz Ansari’s new comedy, released by Lionsgate, centers on an angel who unexpectedly changes the lives of two men. The film stars Ansari alongside Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer, Sandra Oh, and Keanu Reeves. Running just under an hour and a half, it was produced by Garam Films and is expected to be a major release in October 2025.
‘One Battle After Another’ (2025)

Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest film is an exciting thriller about a man with a past who’s desperately looking for his daughter when someone from his history reappears. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, the movie has received positive reviews and is already doing well in theaters. It started showing in select cinemas in late September before becoming widely available.
‘Weapons’ (2025)

Zach Cregger’s new mystery-horror film, produced by New Line/Warner Bros., weaves together multiple storylines connected by a shocking event. The film stars Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, and Benedict Wong. It performed well in theaters, attracting audiences and maintaining strong ticket sales. Larkin Seiple handled the cinematography, and Joe Murphy served as the editor.
‘Die My Love’ (2025)

The upcoming film, inspired by Ariana Harwicz’s novel, tells the story of a couple moving to rural Montana while the wife battles postpartum mental health issues. Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson are set to star. While details are emerging through industry listings, the film is being described as a psychological drama rather than a suspenseful thriller.
‘Bugonia’ (2025)

Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, this film is a new version of the 2003 South Korean movie ‘Save the Green Planet!’. Starring Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons, it was produced by Element Pictures and Square Peg, and distributed by Focus Features (with CJ ENM handling distribution in South Korea). The 118-minute film is a darkly comedic blend of genres and cost a substantial eight-figure sum to make. Reviews and details show it was an international collaboration.
‘The Fantastic 4: First Steps’ (2025)

Matt Shakman directed Marvel Studios’ latest film, ‘Fantastic Four,’ featuring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn as the main characters. Released in theaters in July 2025 in premium formats, the movie launched Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Disney distributed the film, and it became available for home viewing in the fall. The screenplay is credited to Josh Friedman, Eric Pearson, Jeff Kaplan, and Ian Springer.
‘A House of Dynamite’ (2025)

Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, this intense thriller follows the U.S. government’s reaction to the launch of a single, unknown nuclear missile. The film stars Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, Gabriel Basso, Jared Harris, and Tracy Letts. It debuted at the Venice Film Festival in September 2025 and is being distributed by Netflix.
‘Michael’ (2026)

Directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Logan, the upcoming biopic about Michael Jackson was produced by Graham King. Michael Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, stars as the iconic singer, alongside Nia Long, Miles Teller, and Colman Domingo. Lionsgate will release the film in the U.S., while Universal Pictures will handle international distribution, with a planned U.S. release date of April 24, 2026. Filming finished in 2024, with some additional scenes shot in 2025.
‘Predator: Badlands’ (2025)

Dan Trachtenberg, who previously worked on the ‘Predator’ series, directs this new film. He developed the story with Patrick Aison. The movie takes place in the ‘Predator’ universe and centers on a young Predator trying to earn his place by surviving on a dangerous planet. Elle Fanning is among the stars of the film, which is the ninth installment in the franchise.
‘Frankenstein’ (2025)

Guillermo del Toro’s new film, a reimagining of Frankenstein, is coming to Netflix. It stars Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi as the Creature, with Mia Goth and Christoph Waltz also featuring. The film had its first showings at film festivals like Venice, followed by limited showings in IMAX theaters, before becoming available for streaming worldwide in November 2025. Netflix previewed the film with early trailers and announcements as part of its 2025 lineup, and it will be released globally on Netflix after playing in select cinemas.
