Over the past year, TV viewers enjoyed a wide range of compelling stories and big-budget shows. Streaming services kept growing, releasing both highly anticipated sequels and exciting new series that people around the world loved. Popular shows, including returning anthology series and adaptations of well-known books, sparked a lot of conversation online. This is a collection of the scripted series that generated the most excitement among fans globally in the last twelve months.
‘Black Mirror’ (2011– )

As a huge fan, I was thrilled to see Charlie Brooker back with a new season of Black Mirror! It’s still diving deep into how technology messes with our lives and society, and this season – the seventh – doesn’t disappoint. There are six brand new stories, and honestly, the sequel to ‘USS Callister’ was everything I hoped for. Like always, it’s a really unsettling mix of dark humor and genuinely scary visions of the future, all hitting on those things we worry about with technology today. What I really appreciate is that each episode feels totally fresh because they use different directors and actors every time. It keeps things unpredictable and exciting!
‘Andor’ (2022–2025)

The final season of this Star Wars spy show follows Cassian Andor as he evolves into a rebel leader. The story directly connects to the beginning of the movie Rogue One, filled with intense, high-stakes spying. Creator Tony Gilroy delivers a complicated story about how the Rebel Alliance came together while the Empire maintains its harsh control. Diego Luna stars as Cassian, taking on risky assignments and navigating dangerous political situations to help the galaxy.
‘Dept. Q’ (2025– )

This show, based on Jussi Adler-Olsen’s books, follows a special cold case unit in Edinburgh. A once-respected detective is reassigned to a low-priority department where he teams up with an unconventional but highly intelligent partner. Together, they reopen forgotten cases, all while confronting their own troubled histories and mistakes. The series blends the dark, suspenseful style of Nordic noir with the raw realism of Scotland, creating a gripping and atmospheric crime drama.
‘Monster’ (2022– )

Ryan Murphy’s true crime series continues with a terrifying look at Ed Gein, a grave robber and murderer. Starring Charlie Hunnam, the show explores the life of this infamous criminal whose deeds inspired many classic horror movies. The series delves into Gein’s troubled mind and the profound effect his crimes had on the town of Plainfield. This new installment promises to be a disturbing and dramatic retelling of one of the most unsettling cases in American criminal history.
‘Dexter: Resurrection’ (2025– )

Michael C. Hall is back as Dexter Morgan in this new series, picking up right after the events of ‘New Blood.’ The story follows Dexter as he unexpectedly survives and tries to adjust to a new life, all while battling his inner demons – known as the ‘dark passenger’ – and facing new dangers and legal troubles. The series asks if someone like Dexter, driven by violent impulses, can ever truly find redemption.
‘Squid Game’ (2021– )

The hit series is back, with Player 456 returning to the dangerous competition, but this time with a different goal: revenge. Gi-hun has put his plans to move to America on hold to fight those responsible for the deadly games. A new group of players enters the competition, risking everything to win a huge cash prize while facing terrifying versions of classic childhood games. This sequel delves deeper into the secrets of the organization running the games and the identity of the masked figure in charge.
‘Wednesday’ (2022– )

Jenna Ortega is back as Wednesday Addams for a new season at Nevermore Academy. This time around, the show focuses more on scary and mysterious events, with less emphasis on romance. Wednesday continues to solve supernatural mysteries, digging into her family’s past and the secrets of the creatures around the school. The show still has the distinctive, dark visual style influenced by director Tim Burton.
‘Severance’ (2022– )

Season two of the show follows Mark Scout and his coworkers at Lumon Industries as they deal with the fallout from their defiance. The season explores the unsettling severance procedure – a surgery that separates employees’ work and personal memories – in more detail. With the addition of new actors, the story expands on the larger corporate conspiracy happening beyond the main office. Ben Stiller directs several episodes, increasing the show’s signature blend of eerie suspense and sharp commentary on corporate life.
‘The Last of Us’ (2023– )

Joel and Ellie’s dangerous trek across a destroyed America continues, as a deadly fungus has devastated the country. This season closely follows the second game, exploring themes of violence and revenge. Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey give powerful performances as they meet a new community of survivors in the Pacific Northwest. The show’s visuals bring the overgrown ruins of cities to life and showcase frightening new forms of the infected.
‘The White Lotus’ (2021– )

The latest season of Mike White’s sharp and funny series moves to a beautiful resort in Thailand. A new set of privileged guests check in, hoping to find meaning and confront their fears against a gorgeous backdrop. The show follows both familiar and new characters as they stumble through uncomfortable moments and hidden truths. As the vacation unfolds, the series exposes the problems beneath their wealth and leads to a heartbreaking finale.
