Lots of popular movies and TV shows are leaving Netflix at the end of December as their licensing agreements expire. If you want to watch them, you only have a short time left! This week’s departing titles include a variety of romantic comedies and sci-fi adventures. Make sure to plan ahead so you can finish watching anything you’re enjoying before it’s gone.
’10 Things I Hate About You’ (2009)

This TV series, based on the popular movie, centers around two sisters – Kat and Bianca – and their experiences in high school. Kat is a typical student, while Bianca is new and eager to become popular. The show looks at the ups and downs of teenage life and the difficulties of finding your place in a new school. Fans should note that it will be leaving Netflix on Monday, December 29th. The series is inspired by the same romantic comedy story as the original movie, which itself was based on Shakespeare.
‘Idiocracy’ (2006)

This funny sci-fi movie tells the story of a regular soldier who volunteers for a long sleep, only to wake up 500 years in the future. He finds that society has changed so much that people have become less intelligent, and he’s now the smartest person around. The world is run by advertising and doesn’t value thinking. It’s a humorous look at our obsession with brands and modern life, and it’s leaving Netflix on Monday, December 29th.
‘Sweet Home Alabama’ (2002)

Okay, so there’s this movie I just heard about – it’s a really sweet romantic comedy. It follows a fashion designer who’s built a life for herself in New York, but she has to go back home to the South to wrap up her divorce from her high school sweetheart. While she’s there, she’s juggling the memories of her past with her current life and a pretty well-off fiancé. It’s a story about figuring out who you are and what ‘home’ really means. Apparently, it’s one of those early 2000s rom-coms and it’s leaving the streaming service on December 29th, so you’ll have to catch it before it’s gone!
‘Ready Player One’ (2018)

Ready Player One, a film directed by Steven Spielberg, is leaving Netflix on December 30th. The movie takes place in the future where people spend time in a virtual world called the OASIS. It follows a gamer who joins a treasure hunt created by the OASIS’s creator. The prize? Complete control of the virtual world. But he’s not alone – a powerful corporation is also after the prize, hoping to dominate the digital world. The film is packed with nods to popular culture and impressive visual effects.
Tell us which of these departing movies or shows you plan to watch one last time in the comments.
