Hayden Christensen recently shared a funny story about trying to watch Revenge of the Sith with his daughter. He had to stop the movie after just twenty minutes during an appearance at GalaxyCon in March.
He explained that the timing didn’t work out – it was his daughter Briar Rose’s bedtime, and the movie was getting to a particularly intense and violent scene. “It was getting late, and it was past her bedtime. And I was about to take Count Dooku’s head off, so I thought that was a good exit point,” Christensen joked.
This little incident shows a funny challenge for the actor, who played a famous villain, as a parent. It’s a bit tricky introducing his work to his daughter when he goes from being a heroic Jedi to a Sith Lord!
The actor says his eleven-year-old daughter knows he was a significant character in Star Wars, but she hasn’t finished watching the movies yet. The main reason is that she understands his character eventually becomes Darth Vader. She knows Vader is a villain and doesn’t want to see her dad turn into a bad guy on screen, which is perfectly understandable.
Christensen has often talked about wanting to wait until his daughter is old enough to easily understand the difference between what’s real and what’s not before showing her the Star Wars prequels. A recent update from GalaxyCon indicates that while they’ve started to introduce the trilogy, their “dad movie night” is still ongoing.
It’s somewhat amusing that such a heartbreaking story is being delayed by everyday family concerns like bedtime. This serves as a relatable reminder for fans that behind the iconic Darth Vader is simply a father trying to figure out how to share his favorite stories with his child. Currently, it seems a good night’s sleep is winning out over lightsabers in the Christensen household.
Beyond his personal life, Hayden Christensen has been very involved with the Star Wars fanbase this year, spending a lot of time at fan conventions. These appearances have given him a chance to connect with newer fans who appreciate his return to the Star Wars universe in shows like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka. Currently, he’s juggling his convention appearances with filming the second season of Ahsoka for Disney+.
The actor, approaching his mid-40s, is still a prominent presence in Hollywood, often seen at events like the Saturn Awards. Both critics and fans continue to appreciate his dedicated performance in his well-known role and his friendly demeanor with the public.
