Be advised, the following narrative discloses significant events happening in Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 Episode 13, named “Don’t You (Forget About Me).” Read at your own risk if you prefer to remain unaware of spoilers.
As the final five episodes of Season 21 approach for Grey’s Anatomy, the characters have room to develop, prosper, contemplate, and educate themselves. Although some relationships continue to flourish, others are teetering on the brink of calamity (or have already reached a critical point). Despite this, even the most skilled doctors find themselves learning from their junior residents and peers daily.
The ongoing competition between Jo and Marcus persists. Instead of performing one of her surgeries because he doesn’t want her to regain her footing, she initially chooses to ignore it, but confides in Ben about her feelings. (Their relationship dynamic is well-balanced.) Following a case involving a patient upset with a man usurping her duties while she’s hospitalized, Jo decides to confront Marcus for his actions towards her and her twins. Ben, who has often seen strong women curb the arrogance of their male peers, suggests they grab a burger together.
Simone has been diligently getting ready to aid Amelia during Molly’s groundbreaking operation, and her anxiety escalates as the surgery unfolds and Molly’s chance of seizures becomes higher. In a moment of concern for Molly’s well-being, Simone suggests halting the procedure, but Amelia insists that trusting the process is the only option. Later, when Simone expresses regret for overstepping, Amelia explains that her growing reputation doesn’t outweigh years of expertise, emphasizing that all personal knowledge about patients and their relationships must be set aside in the operating room. Fortunately, Simone is still given the opportunity to discuss Molly’s case during grand rounds, as even in medicine, blunders are crucial for learning.
As events unfold, Dave confronts Blue and reveals that his presence in Seattle is solely to warn her about Molly. He explains that when Molly initially lost her memories, she went into a tailspin trying to regain them and posed a risk to herself. Despite appearing to genuinely care about Molly as much as he does, Blue challenges him after the surgery for withholding information and lying to him. Unfortunately, the surgery was unsuccessful in recovering any of Molly’s memories prior to the accident. Blue wonders if their relationship is now merely an attempt by Dave to help her regain her memory. It appears their bond has reached its end.
On Winston’s ongoing assignment, Jules opts to aid in a simpler treatment rather than participating in a complex case alongside Winston. Yet, her zeal and dedication towards honing her abilities, regardless of their perceived status, prove fruitful. Following the success of her operation, he extends an invitation for her to collaborate on a more intricate procedure, evidently acknowledging that she aspires to lead at the operating table someday.
However, it’s not just Lucas who’s showing potential as an intern. In a recent case, Lucas successfully identified a blockage in Nick’s patient’s kidney, although the kidney couldn’t be saved ultimately. Despite this, Nick was still quite impressed with him. When Lucas asks if repeating his intern year might not be essential, Nick conveys that only Catherine Fox has the power to alter that decision. Later, when Lucas confers with Richard, Richard expresses his doubt whether Lucas possesses the qualities needed to persuade Catherine.
Eventually, Teddy and Cass find themselves in the same place again – it’s a conference where Bailey is showcasing her groundbreaking program. After Cass assists in saving the presentation, Teddy decides she’s prepared to explore their relationship further. However, as they inch towards deepening their emotional bond, Teddy comes to terms that she no longer wishes to salvage her marriage with Owen through an open arrangement. This is unfortunate, considering Nora introduces a friend for examination in the episode’s finale, and they end up entwined – both figuratively and literally. Although Teddy has second thoughts, Owen appears resolute in his choice to fulfill Nora’s desires.
Initially, I found myself appreciating the thought of Owen and Teddy being content together and with others at the same time. However, my experience within this fandom has taught me that I ought to have anticipated such a turn of events. After all, nothing lasting seems to persist in this world; it’s just how things unfold.
