  • It also unveiled details of its latest chipset, Tensor G5, its most powerful mobile processor ever.
  • The phones debut a refreshed version of Android and are available to pre-order now.

Today, Google officially presented its latest Pixel series, now in its tenth generation, during a Made by Google event hosted by Jimmy Fallon. This unveiling saw four new devices: the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and both their XL variants, along with the foldable Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Powering these phones is the Google Tensor G5, their most advanced chip yet. Additionally, Google’s freshly launched four-device lineup will debut alongside the latest iteration of its on-device AI, Gemini Nano. The company claims that this new version runs 2.6 times faster and twice as efficiently due to enhanced performance provided by the Tensor G5 processor.

The Pixel 10 series is anticipated to introduce an updated version of Android, namely Material 3 Expressive, which Google has redesigned. This fresh UI is touted to offer a more customizable and seamless user experience, featuring vibrant animations and intuitive interactions.

Introducing the new, highly customized, forward-thinking, and supportive Pixel series, starting with the Pixel 10 – an outstanding entry-level device featuring a metal frame and a vivid 6.3-inch Actua display that can reach a dazzling 3,000 nits. The Pixel 10 is available in four colors: “Obsidian,” “Frost,” “Indigo,” and “Lemongrass.” Notably, this phone on its tier will come equipped with a 5x telephoto lens as per Google’s claims. The camera system boasts rapid autofocus capabilities and a Super Res Zoom mode that allows for up to 20x magnification.

Compared to the Pixel 10, the more advanced Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL models offer even more features. Google considers these two versions as their most premium Pixels ever, with screen sizes of 6.3-inches for the Pixel 10 Pro and a slightly larger 6.8-inches for the Pixel 10 Pro XL. These devices will be available in beloved colors like Obsidian and Porcelain, as well as new hues named Moonstone and Jade. The cameras on both models are Google’s best yet, with the Pro Res Zoom mode offering up to 100x zoom and high-quality 50MP photos.

Furthermore, the Pro duo boasts the largest batteries ever in a Pixel device, comes equipped with 16GB of RAM as a standard feature, and sports enhanced speakers. Notably, Google claims that its latest Pixels are the first significant Android phones to back Qi2 wireless charging technology, a standard they are eagerly adopting by debuting a new line of chargers and accessories named Pixelsnap.

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold, Google’s response to the growing demand for foldable phones, is made from robust aerospace-grade aluminum. It boasts a revolutionary gearless hinge, which Google claims is twice as durable as its previous model and showcases Google’s top-notch engineering. The foldable device also promises enhanced camera performance and runs on the Tensor G5 processor, enabling it to efficiently handle everyday AI tasks.

As a gaming enthusiast, what caught my eye with the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is definitely its IP68 water and dust resistance rating – apparently the first for a foldable device. Google boasts that their innovative foldable, built with ultra-thin glass and double-layered anti-impact film, can endure over a decade of folds, which sounds pretty impressive, even if it’s a bit vague. This futuristic gadget will be available in two stunning colors: “Moonstone” and “Jade”.

Today marks the commencement of pre-orders for the new Pixel 10 series. The Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL, priced at £799 GBP / $799 USD, £999 GBP / $999 USD, and £1,199 GBP / $1,199 USD respectively, will be officially launched on August 28. On the other hand, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, priced at £1,749 GBP / $1,799 USD, is set to debut on October 9.
