In the recently unveiled trailer for Good Boy, we get a dog’s perspective of what turns a peaceful countryside home into a place of unease. Released on Monday, August 18th, this brief sneak peek stars Indy, a faithful canine companion, and his owner Todd (played by Shane Jensen). As they settle into a family home that’s been unoccupied for quite some time, the trailer subtly hints that the house is not as vacant as it appears.
As a loyal companion, right from the get-go, I’m reminded of timeless canine themes – phrases like “man’s best friend,” “always by your side,” and “sharing the good times” grace the screen. But the tone takes an intriguing turn as eerie noises pierce the quiet night. Mysterious knocking and a chilling scene of someone repeatedly hitting their head against a door escalate the tension. I, being the first to respond, start barking and sniffing around, sensing something unusual is happening. The clip concludes abruptly, leaving viewers eagerly anticipating what happens next.
Here’s what the trailer shows
In quick succession, the footage shows Indy darting through forests and keeping watch over the land under cover of night. During a tense scene, Todd’s grandfather – portrayed by Larry Fessenden – makes an appearance, suggesting something ominous lurks beneath. He lets out a chilling growl that sends shivers down Indy’s spine. The trailer emphasizes the dog’s courage.
In simpler terms, the official description refers to Indy as our brave dog hero. The story goes that this canine hero, Indy, embarks on a fresh adventure alongside his human companion and closest friend, Todd. Leaving urban life behind, they move into an abandoned rural home. Immediately, it’s evident that Indy is uneasy about the spooky old house, but his love for Todd remains constant.
Can Indy protect his owner?
In the trailer, they pose a question without providing an answer. The narrative is guided by Indy’s point of view, creating tension. Common sounds seem menacing to the audience. Quick, intense cuts and scenes set during nighttime intensify the suspense related to the haunted house theme. The movie offers a unique blend of family bonds and supernatural peril, with the dog playing a crucial role in the storyline.
In a notable directorial debut, Ben Leonberg introduces his first full-length film titled Good Boy. Interestingly, Leonberg chose to feature his own dog, Indy, as the main character in this movie. The premiere of Good Boy took place at the SXSW Film Festival in March. IFC Films has scheduled the film’s North American theater release for October 3, and a U.K. release is planned for October 10. Alongside Indy, the cast comprises Arielle Friedman, Anya Krawcheck, and Stuart Rudin.
