Prime Video scored a hit with its Fallout TV series, and now it’s aiming to repeat that success with two more video game adaptations. A Tomb Raider show with Sophie Turner is already in the works, and now filming has begun on a big-budget God of War series. Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television released the first image of Ryan Hurst and Callum Vinson, who will play Kratos and Atreus in the new show.
The first images from the God of War series have been released, showing the famous characters brought to life. One photo features Kratos intently watching his son, Atreus, practice archery. Those familiar with the games will immediately understand the significance, but for new viewers, here’s a quick overview of the story’s mythological roots, according to Prime Video:
The God of War games tell the story of Kratos and his son Atreus as they travel together to scatter the ashes of Kratos’s wife and Atreus’s mother, Faye. Throughout their journey, Kratos attempts to guide Atreus in becoming a worthy god, while Atreus, in turn, tries to help Kratos become a more compassionate person.

Alongside Christopher Judge as Kratos and Sunny Suljic as Atreus, the cast of God of War includes Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri, and Danny Woodburn as Brok.
Ronald D. Moore, known for shows like Battlestar Galactica and Outlander, is the showrunner, executive producer, and a writer on the series. It’s a co-production between Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, with support from PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions.
This initial image suggests God of War is set for a long run as a Prime Video series. Unlike other game adaptations, it doesn’t need to prove its worth – it’s already been renewed for two seasons. If it achieves the same level of success as Fallout, it could last even longer.
