This year’s Grammy Awards were missing a familiar presence on the red carpet: Cole Walliser, the longtime operator of E!’s Glambot camera. According to Variety, E! decided not to use Walliser after some past interactions came under scrutiny. Viewers noticed the Glambot was still running, but Walliser wasn’t there to direct the celebrities.
The controversy began at the Golden Globe Awards in January when a video of Jennifer Lopez using the Glambot became popular online. In the video, Lopez appeared intensely focused and didn’t seem to notice the interviewer, leading many to accuse her of being impolite. Although the interviewer defended Lopez, explaining she was simply focused and professional, the incident sparked a lot of negative discussion online.
The situation worsened when emails from 2019 were discovered. They revealed a conversation between Walliser and a potential client, Yinka Animashaun, who was interested in renting the Glambot for her wedding. In the emails, Walliser directly questioned whether she could afford the service, which ranges in price from $10,000 to $1,000,000. He also accused her of simply asking for a price quote without a genuine intention to book.
After receiving criticism, Walliser apologized on Instagram, acknowledging that his messages came across as dismissive and were inappropriate. He explained he was handling everything himself at the time and felt incredibly overwhelmed with work. However, he stressed that this wasn’t a justification for his behavior and that he fully owned up to how he treated the potential client.
During the Grammys, when Walliser was absent, someone else operated the Glambot, and celebrities like Bad Bunny and Michelle Williams still had their moments in front of the camera. E! network, now part of Versant, is reportedly aiming for a more professional atmosphere and is completely re-evaluating how it covers future award shows to ensure a respectful red carpet experience.
Beyond the excitement surrounding the Glambot, the 2026 Grammys celebrated incredible music. Bad Bunny made history by winning Album of the Year for a Spanish-language album, and the show included standout performances by Sabrina Carpenter and Billie Eilish, who won Song of the Year. Jennifer Lopez, who first went viral with the Glambot, is currently performing in a Las Vegas residency and filming the movie Kiss of the Spider Woman. The Glambot technology itself was created by director Joseph Kahn in 2016 and continues to be a popular feature during awards season, even as different people work behind the scenes.
