Gillian Anderson, who previously said she wouldn’t reprise her role, now seems open to returning as Dana Scully in a potential new X-Files series. She mentioned this while promoting her upcoming movie, TRON: Ares, telling Comic Book Resources she’d be willing to come back if Ryan Coogler is involved in rebooting the show. She indicated she’d consider playing the famous F.B.I. agent if the project moves forward under his direction.
If Ryan Coogler ever manages to revive *The X-Files*, I might consider reprising my role as Scully, perhaps in a few years, and would be happy to work with him on it.
Gillian Anderson became famous for her role as Special Agent Dana Scully on the hit 90s TV show, *The X-Files*, alongside David Duchovny. The pair were everywhere – on magazine covers and quickly became pop culture icons. Fox briefly brought them back for two more seasons a few years ago, but Anderson wasn’t happy with how her character was written and said she wouldn’t play Dana Scully again. However, with Ryan Coogler now leading the project, she seems to be reconsidering.

Anderson hinting at a return suggests the new *X-Files* series won’t be a complete restart, but will continue the original story – similar to the approach being taken with the *Buffy the Vampire Slayer* revival. We still haven’t heard if David Duchovny will reprise his role as Fox Mulder, though he’s historically been more open to returning, even after leaving the show after seven seasons. With the recent success of *Sinners*, Ryan Coogler should have the creative freedom and support needed to realize his vision for the new *X-Files*.
