Tylor Chase, who used to star on the Nickelodeon show “Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide,” was recently found living on the streets of Los Angeles, as shown in a video that went viral in September.
For more than ten years, the 36-year-old actor has been struggling with mental health challenges, including bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, and has also dealt with substance abuse.

Tylor Chase’s father, Joseph Mendez Jr., shared with the Daily Mail that the family has repeatedly tried to get him the support he needs. According to Mendez, they’ve been seeking treatment for Tylor – including help with both substance use and mental health – for more than ten years. He also said, “When he’s himself, he’s a really good person.”
Chase received diagnoses of both schizophrenia and bipolar disorder in 2015. Around 2021, his family successfully enrolled him in a rehabilitation program in Georgia, but he later stopped treatment and began using drugs again. According to Mendez, Chase then moved back to California to be near his mother, Paula Moisio.
Newly released video shows Chase looking unwell and rummaging through trash behind a 7-Eleven in Riverside. He was dressed in worn clothes and seemed unkempt. While he insisted he doesn’t have a mental illness, he admitted to taking multiple prescription medications, including Prozac, Adderall, Wellbutrin, Zoloft, and Sudafed.
Court records show Chase has been involved in 12 incidents in Riverside since 2023, mostly involving shoplifting and issues with substance use. Police confirm he is not currently wanted for any crimes. Outreach teams have repeatedly offered him help with shelter and other services, but he has declined each time.
Chase shared with reporters that he’s getting support from his mother and intends to return to Georgia in the near future. He explained that he’s currently not living on the streets and would like to visit his father there. He’s hoping to find help with housing once he arrives.
This story illustrates the difficult challenges many former child stars face. Despite achieving early fame, Chase’s battles with mental health and addiction emphasize the importance of strong family support and readily available help. It’s deeply sad to see someone so talented going through such a tough time.
