Foreigner drummer has weird reason for skipping Rock Hall induction ceremony

As a longtime fan of Foreigner and someone who has followed their journey since the late ’70s, I have to say I was quite disappointed by Dennis Elliott’s decision to skip the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. It’s understandable that he might be upset about not being able to walk the red carpet with his spouse, but it seems like a rather petty reason to miss out on such a historic event.

On Saturday night, numerous stars and musicians attended the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony for the 2024 class. While some may debate the decisions made by the Rock Hall regarding who is inducted, there’s no denying they put on a fantastic annual event. Occasionally, any disagreements aren’t about the museum but rather with the musical artists themselves.

In this scenario, Foreigner found themselves in a unique situation, with two original members absent from the event. One of these was Mick Jones, the band’s guitarist. His absence was due to a compelling reason – he is currently fighting Parkinson’s disease. The band had shared this health update with fans earlier in 2024.

Dennis Elliott, the drummer, had an unusual reason for not attending the event. He mentioned on Facebook last week that he wouldn’t be present at the induction ceremony because he received the event’s schedule too late. It’s a bit puzzling since all other Foreigner members who were supposed to be in Cleveland, except for Jones, would have also learned about the schedule at the same time.

Why Foreigner drummer Dennis Elliott chose to skip the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony

Other attendees were present, yet Elliott was absent. It seemed like he might have been hesitant because only band members were scheduled to grace the red carpet prior to the event, while their partners typically do not. Granted, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame could potentially revise its policy to allow significant others on the red carpet, but historically, it has been this way, and few, if any, have raised concerns about it.

Elliott posted on Facebook, “Foreigner Fans & Friends, We regret to inform you that we won’t be able to attend the event as planned. Last night, we received our schedule and it doesn’t meet our expectations. Consequently, we’ve decided to stay home. For weeks now, we had requested a schedule, but they only sent it at the last possible moment, when everyone was preparing to leave for bed. This is unacceptable to us. We hope you enjoy yourselves.

It appears the drummer didn’t feel like going, if I may be frank.

Essentially, it was Foreigner’s fans who missed out on seeing Elliott reunite with the band. Many may have yearned for such a reunion, but Elliott declined due to feelings of being offended. Regrettably, personal offense isn’t a valid justification for his absence.
