For ‘The Garage,’ Toxic Arts Embraces the Beauty in London’s Grit and Grime

Based in London, Toxic Arts is aiming to revolutionize contemporary art encounters. Led by Harry Barratt and Alex Isthikhar, this online gallery is swapping out conventional white walls for something edgier, more engaging, and authentically raw. Located in an old industrial building, not far from London’s financial district, you’ll find their recent group exhibition titled “The Garage“. This showcase features a diverse group of 20 budding artists from around the world, each as provocative, thoughtful, and electrifying as the next.

Similar to their initial show, Public Life, The Garage takes its industrial setting – reminiscent of an abandoned subway station – as part of the art itself. As Isthikhar puts it to Hypeart, “It has a factory-like feel, which complements some of the artists they collaborate with. It gives depth to their message.” We strive to create something unique and thought-provoking, making visitors wonder, “What awaits me in this room?

The exhibition showcases an assorted blend of art forms, ranging from traditional prints and paintings to avant-garde calligraphy, with no specific theme guiding it. By empowering the artists, the exhibit flourishes in creativity, resulting in a collection of diverse pieces that are connected like stars in a constellation. As Isthikhar muses, the collaboration has fostered a community based on trust in vision, resilience, and finding beauty in the unlikeliest places.

The Garage will be on view in London from March 28 through 30.
