The new movie, Five Nights At Freddy’s 2, isn’t performing as well at the box office as the first Five Nights At Freddy’s film, which came out in 2023.
The original opened to $80 million even with a day-and-date release on Peacock.
The new movie wasn’t released on streaming and has currently earned around $45 to $47 million, which is about half of what the first movie made when it first came out.

A Low Budget Helps the Sequel
The upside is that the Five Nights At Freddy’s films are inexpensive.
Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 needs about $90 million to break even.
If the next movie performs like the previous one, earning about half as much money (almost $300 million), it could make around $150 million globally.

Why the Drop Is So Big
Fans didn’t show up at the same level this time for a few reasons.
It’s no longer the first movie event.
Reviews and fan reactions for both films are weak.
A lot of people are probably expecting it to be available on Peacock soon, so they’re choosing to wait and stream it rather than pay to see it in theaters.
The first film launched with a huge $40 million opening day, but the second Five Nights at Freddy’s movie only made $24 million, suggesting it didn’t generate as much excitement.
Competition From Zootopia 2
Both Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 and Zootopia 2 are competing for the number one spot. Zootopia 2 is predicted to earn around $45 million this weekend, which is a 55% decrease from its opening, and will likely result in a very close race between the two films.
