Five extraordinarily disappointing albums of 2024

As a gamer who’s spent countless hours immersed in the rhythm of music, this year’s disappointments have left me feeling like a player stuck on a frustrating level. I mean, come on, these artists were once my musical guides, leading me through the best tunes and melodies! But alas, 2024 has been a letdown.

2024 saw an impressive array of outstanding albums gracing the airwaves. Each passing year seems to bring a unique gem that leaves music enthusiasts awestruck by its brilliance. However, it’s disheartening when some long-standing musical virtuosos start delivering subpar work instead.

Regarding the playlist in question, it appears that the albums lacked excitement. It’s important to remember that these artists aren’t obligated to produce new music, but if they choose to create more tracks, they should aim to engage and challenge their audience instead.

There’s still a chance for these musicians to produce great albums; however, it seems one of them may have wrapped up their career. Here’s to hoping the rest improve moving forward.

Five extremely disappointing albums from 2024

5. Jennifer Lopez – This is Me…Now

Lopez hasn’t been creating significant music for quite some time now. This recent album seems more focused on achieving a polished sound rather than maintaining the integrity of the songs. The movie accompanying the album, like the record itself, lacks depth. While her wealth is evident, we hope she delivers something meaningful in her future projects.

4. Coldplay – Moon Music

Essentially, I feel like their musical evolution isn’t sitting well with me. In the early stages of their career, they produced hits like “Yellow” that resonated deeply. While their overall sound hasn’t dramatically changed, they seem to have smoothed out their edges and strive for a polished finish on every track. This polish, in my opinion, makes their latest work such as Moon Music feel less authentic and more superficial. The music isn’t bad, but I don’t think it will be something we’ll still be singing along to 20 years from now.

3. Gwen Stefani – Bouquet

Stefani seems genuinely content with her life with Blake Shelton, which is wonderful for her. Throughout her career, she’s been candid about her experiences and feelings. However, this album lacks the spark or fresh ideas that characterized her previous works. It’s as if her happiness has somehow stifled her songwriting abilities.

The majority of her songs lack excitement and tend to blend together. Moreover, her conversations about her relationship with Shelton give the impression that she’s no longer striving for uniqueness.

2. Justin Timberlake – Everything I Thought I Was

In a more natural and easy-to-read manner: Justin Timberlake was known for his knack for crafting melodies and skillfully employing his powerful voice to accentuate nearly every lyric. It wasn’t just that he made his songs sexy; he radiated it. However, those days appear to be in the past, as Timberlake now seems disillusioned and somewhat critical of himself. The main problem with this album is that it lacks excitement, much like the most uninspiring tracks from earlier albums.

1. Katy Perry – 143

In the past, it was common for a musical artist to have only one or two collaborations on an album, which often felt like a marketing ploy, and these tracks were frequently the main singles that still prominently showcased the original performer. However, in Perry’s case, there are numerous collaborators, and most of their contributions seem unnecessary.

The album seems designed to include several chart-topping songs, yet none of the tracks seem effective. After this release, it may signal the end of Perry’s career, who has struggled for quite some time now. Undeniably, she no longer holds the same allure as a significant recording artist.
