Cast and Characters
Alongside Lagaʻaia and Johnson, the film features:
- John Tui as Chief Tui, Moana’s straightforward and steady father
- Frankie Adams as Sina, Moana’s playful and strong-willed mother
- Rena Owen as Gramma Tala
The actors capture the essence of the original animated characters, but also make them feel realistic and believable in live-action.

Behind the Camera
The new film, Moana, is directed by Thomas Kail, the award-winning director of Hamilton. Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, Beau Flynn, Hiram Garcia, and Lin-Manuel Miranda are producing, with Miranda also contributing songs, as he did with the first Moana movie. Thomas Kail, Scott Sheldon, Charles Newirth, and Auli’i Cravalho are executive producers on the project.
Disney wants to create a fully engaging and captivating theatrical experience. The show will emphasize the stunning visuals from the movie, celebrate Polynesian culture, and feature the beloved music that made the original film so popular worldwide.
Release Date
Moana arrives exclusively in theaters on July 10, 2026.
