First ‘Supergirl’ Teaser Lands Before Full Trailer Release

James Gunn just released a short preview of the upcoming Supergirl film, revealing Milly Alcock as the iconic character Kara Zor-El.

He shared a brief video on his social media, and it rapidly gained popularity online. This followed a large-scale preview of the upcoming Supergirl movie by Warner Bros. at CCXP25, where they displayed costumes, set pieces, and other items from the film.

Up until now, all we’d gotten were stills from the movie, so seeing Alcock actually in the role in this teaser is a huge deal! Warner Bros. is really starting to ramp up the promotion, which makes sense – this film is going to be a big piece of what DC has planned for 2026, and they want everyone excited.

I’m really excited about the new Supergirl movie! Craig Gillespie is directing, and the script is by Ana Nogueira. Milly Alcock is taking on the role of Kara, and the cast also includes Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham. James Gunn and Peter Safran are producing through DC Studios, which is a great sign. From what I’ve heard, the story follows Kara’s journey through space, and she experiences something terrible that sets her off on what they’re calling a seriously intense, revenge-driven mission.

The journey to bring Supergirl to the big screen has been quite lengthy. While a Supergirl project was initially considered years ago as part of the previous DC Universe plans, the character first appeared in the 2023 film The Flash. When James Gunn and Peter Safran became heads of DC Studios in 2022, the plans evolved. The new Supergirl movie draws inspiration from the comic book Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Milly Alcock was cast after being selected to appear in the upcoming 2025 Superman film, and filming for Supergirl happened earlier this year in the United Kingdom.

I’m so excited! Warner Bros. just announced that the movie is coming out on June 26, 2026, and it’ll be the first film kicking off the new DC Universe – they’re calling this era ‘Gods and Monsters.’
