Fate/EXTRA Record release delayed to 2026

It appears that the upcoming RPG game “Fate/EXTRA Record” will not be released for PC, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch in 2025 as initially planned. Instead, the developers, Bandai Namco and Type-Moon, have decided to postpone its release until Spring 2026.

The revamped version of the 2010 dungeon crawler game Fate/EXTRA for PlayStation Portable, titled Fate/EXTRA Record, is now available. This updated edition retains its turn-based combat system and intertwines a narrative structure similar to visual novels. Your choices as a player will determine whether you reach a favorable or unfavorable conclusion.

In this new storyline separate from Fate/stay night, some familiar faces like Rin Tohsaka, Shinji Matou, Archer (Emiya) and Lancer (Cú Chulainn) make an appearance. Saber, who was previously Altria (King Arthur), now shares the limelight with the protagonist as a different incarnation of Roman emperor Nero.

Among the notable characters from history depicted as Servants in Fate/EXTRA are Francis Drake, Robin Hood, Lu Bu, Gawain, Buddha, and Vlad the Impaler.

In Fate/EXTRA, some historical figures shown as Servants include Francis Drake, Robin Hood, Lu Bu, Gawain, Buddha, and Vlad the Impaler.

On the game’s official site, developers announced that they are putting in extra effort to create a complete overhaul of Fate/EXTRA, the initial RPG within the Fate series, aiming for a 2025 release. However, they feel it’s necessary to spend a bit more time so they can deliver a superior quality game that offers greater enjoyment to our players.

Kazuya Nino, the game’s director, expressed regret for the delay and accepted accountability in a post on social media. He clarified that he had significantly underestimated the timeline due to an oversight regarding the amount of time required to develop a fully-voiced game, as this was his inaugural attempt at such a project.
