The home release of *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* is happening sooner than planned, which many are seeing as another sign that Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t performing as well as hoped.
Digital and Blu-ray Release Dates
The movie will be available to rent or buy online starting September 23rd, about two months after it played in theaters. You’ll be able to buy physical copies – including 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD – starting October 14th.
This release is happening earlier than expected, suggesting Disney is trying to recover as much as possible from the movie’s disappointing performance. The film is likely to be available on Disney+ around November 19th.

Box Office Update
As of this past Sunday, the film has grossed:
- Domestic (52.5%): $272,460,078
- International (47.5%): $246,367,445
- Worldwide: $518,827,523
While the official budget is listed as $200 million, sources close to the project say the final cost reached approximately $350 million due to significant reshoots. When you include marketing expenses, the film needs to earn around $875 million to cover its costs.

Another MCU Bomb
That means even after crossing $500M globally, Fantastic Four would still be a loss for Disney.
Adding to the disappointments of *Captain America: Brave New World* and *Thunderbolts*, this latest result confirms that Marvel’s previously dependable success at the box office is fading, according to a recent report in *Variety*.
Disney is now relying on sales of digital copies and Blu-rays to make up for the movie’s poor performance, but the figures show it’s another unsuccessful film from Kevin Feige.
Look for the Fantastic Four next to show up in Avengers: Doomsday.
