Last night, September 22nd, Kojima Productions hosted a large livestream event called Beyond The Strand before the Tokyo Games Show. The event celebrated the studio’s tenth anniversary and offered exciting first looks at their upcoming games, like OD and PHYSINT.
We have updates on both video games and new projects based on those games – including the upcoming Death Stranding movie and a newly revealed anime film. Here’s a full rundown of everything we know.
OD: Knock cast and first trailer
The presentation kicked off with the first trailer for OD, the new horror game from Kojima Productions. Published by Xbox Game Studios, the game already looks stunning based on the footage shown. It’s shaping up to be a genuinely terrifying experience, so those easily frightened might want to look away! Xbox’s Phil Spencer, who was present, described the game as very much in line with Hideo Kojima’s unique style.
Jordan Peele is collaborating with Hideo Kojima on a new game called OD. The game will feature performances by Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier.
Death Stranding movie from A24 still in production
At the end of 2022, it was announced that a movie based on the game Death Stranding is in development. During a recent presentation, Sam Hanson from A24 discussed the project, which will be directed by Michael Sarnoski and produced by Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen. The film, still scheduled for release in 2027, will tell an original story set within the Death Stranding universe.
Sarnoski also discussed the project, explaining that they’re aiming to create a new story set in the same world. They want it to be enjoyable for both newcomers and longtime fans of the games.
Death Stranding: Mosquito anime confirmed
An anime adaptation of Death Stranding is in the works, featuring a story by Aaron Guzikowski and direction by Hiroshi Miyamoto, with Hideo Kojima producing. Line Mileage is handling production. A brief teaser has been released, and more details are coming soon.
Physint production has begun
PlayStation’s Hermen Hulst recently shared some details about ‘Physint,’ a new game being published by PlayStation Studios. Following the announcement of the cast – including Charlee Fraser, Ma Dong-seok (also known as Don Lee, who appeared in ‘Death Stranding 2’), and Minami Hamabe – Hideo Kojima has stated that ‘Physint’ will be even more technologically advanced than ‘OD,’ and its development will take more time.
Zaku Ludens, the Kojima Productions sake
For some reason, we’ve received sake from Kojima Productions. It’s made by the Shimizu Seizaburo Shoten brewery – basically, it’s alcohol!
The Kojima and friends power hour
Hideo Kojima surprised viewers by inviting Geoff Keighley, George Miller, Guillermo del Toro, and Mamoru Oshii onto the stage. All four filmmakers appeared in Death Stranding 2, either as main characters or in cameo roles. You can see this part of the presentation here.
Niantic Spatial X Kojima Productions
I’m so hyped! Kojima Productions is teaming up with the folks who made Pokémon GO – that Niantic Spatial crew – to create a new augmented reality game. They’ve made a few other AR games since Pokémon GO, but none really took off like that one. It might be a little while before we get to play it, but I can’t wait to see what they come up with!
