Ethan Van Sciver, a former artist for DC Comics, has responded to recent news about the villain in the upcoming HBO series Lanterns, sparking further discussion about the show.
Artist Van Sciver revealed key details about the upcoming “Lanterns” series on X (formerly Twitter), admitting he’d spoiled the identity of the show’s main villain after a report about it surfaced.
The report connected the reveal of the villain to previous statements made by Van Sciver, noting that Thaal Sinestro will be featured in every episode of the new series.
Oh hell yeah. I just spoiled the entire LANTERNS show.https://t.co/eoiEwqplSV

Van Sciver may have confirmed more than intended
Van Sciver previously caused a stir by claiming Sinestro appears in every episode of the show and suggesting DC Studios was intentionally leaving out important Green Lantern content from the preview.
After Van Sciver claimed he “spoiled the entire LANTERNS show,” many fans believe he’s confessed to accidentally revealing a key detail before DC and HBO intended to share it.

Van Sciver had already been defending the series
What made Van Sciver’s earlier comments stand out is that he wasn’t trashing the series.
He really liked the teaser and expressed his gratitude to James Gunn. He also thought the cast was strong and pointed out that the show seems to be prioritizing a mature, dramatic mystery over typical superhero elements.
I’m a big fan of Van Sciver, and it’s amazing to remember he helped bring characters like Atrocitus and Jessica Cruz into the Green Lantern universe! I’ve even heard whispers that Atrocitus might be appearing in a new series, which would be incredible.
I completely agree. I’m exhausted by constantly having to defend simple things online against people who seem determined to find offense in pop culture. It’s like trying to reason with someone who’s already made up their mind, similar to how Anne Coulter was treated on Bill Maher’s show when she predicted Trump’s victory in 2015. Lindelof was clearly making a joke and didn’t actually mean…
