Epic Games finds itself amidst a heated debate following public remarks by their top officials, which were perceived as trivializing or mocking the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

Tim Sweeney’s Posts

Rather than criticizing Clemson University for denouncing celebrations related to Kirk’s murder, Tim Sweeney, founder and CEO of Epic Games, instead took aim at Clemson University by sharing the text of the First Amendment and adding his own comments.

“What amendment says you can’t diss someone? Not seeing it here.”

Instead of acknowledging the gravity of the situation, Sweeney stood firm in his stance, labeling Clemson’s declaration as “inaccurate regarding the constitution.” He maintained that his actions were not politically motivated but emphasized the importance of the right to “strongly criticize,” asserting that this freedom should still be upheld-despite accusations that his comments seemed to condone rhetoric glorifying violence.

Bruce Knapic’s Comments

In a similar context, one could rephrase the sentence as follows: Bruce Knapic, an employee at Epic Games in the Trust & Safety department, faced criticism for his online actions. Rather than expressing disapproval towards Kirk’s death, Knapic chose to boost posts that were critical of conservatives and ridiculed tributes dedicated to Kirk.
