Ed Sheeran is embracing his Indian side, and fans are jokingly asking for him to get an Indian identification card! After performing with Diljit Dosanjh in both Birmingham and Mumbai last year, and releasing the song ‘Sapphire’ with Arijit Singh, the popular singer is collaborating with another Indian artist – and this time it’s Karan Aujla, a collaboration many have been hoping for. Sheeran announced the new song during an interview with Nikita Kanda on BBC Asian Network on September 17th.
Ed Sheeran just announced he’s releasing a new song with Indian artist Karan Aujla! Sheeran reminisced about his previous experiences singing in Punjabi, mentioning he first tried it out on Diljit Dosanjh’s song, “Lover,” where Diljit actually taught him the lyrics. His collaboration with Arijit Singh was different, but he excitedly revealed that he’s now worked with Karan Aujla on a brand new track.
He didn’t reveal much, but mentioned he recently returned to singing in Punjabi for a new song, saying they’d ‘done a little bit of that.’ When asked for details, he only shared that the music video was just filmed in New York. He described the shoot last week as ‘really good’ and announced the song will be released in October, giving fans just a couple of weeks to wait.
Ed Sheeran described Punjabi as a naturally musical and poetic language. He explained that he worked closely with Karan to perfect his pronunciation, asking for honest and direct feedback. They practiced together, and Karan wasn’t afraid to correct him, which ultimately helped Ed succeed.
