Duran Lantink FW25 Is All in Good Taste

During the Fall/Winter 2025 fashion week in Paris, Duran Lantink‘s runway presentation was nothing short of extravagant. Lantink, who won the Karl Prize last year, showcased his self-branded line, “Duranimal,” at this event. This Amsterdam and Paris-based label transformed the runway into a global safari, featuring an array of exotic animals from around the world.

For Duran Lantink’s FW25 collection, titled “Duranimals,” various motifs emerged. The label showcased daring animal prints, ranging from zebra-patterned pony hair jackets to reworked snakeskins, velvet leopard print, and even recycled cowhides sourced from LVMH’s surplus supplier. In addition to these patterns, Lantink introduced camouflage and plaid in an unconventional mix. This collection also marked the designer’s initial collaboration with Italian footwear brand Sergio Rossi for custom runway shoes. Furthermore, it was Lantink’s first time working with Paris-based production company Bureau Betak. The designer utilized his upcoming offices as the show venue and integrated his day-to-day business into the concept. To set the tone, sound artist Frederic Sanchez collaborated on a partly improvised a cappella performance by Parisian choristers, inspired by a cutting-edge sound composition from the 1970s. Models then navigated through cubicles to display the FW25 collection.

A notable aspect of the presentation was Lantink’s audaciousness, evident in his latest collection that deliberately embraces tackiness and excess. From patterns and prints to even prosthetic body parts, this collection is intentionally over-the-top, as Lantink declares, “I can manage ‘poor taste’ too.” The designs aimed to create drama throughout, with a focus on narrower silhouettes to delve into “shape as a style,” moving away from the rounder shapes that had been dominant in his previous collections. Two dresses were hand-knitted in merino wool into an interconnected form by a group of Dutch women, adding to the dramatic shapes seen throughout the collection. The themes hinted at Americana, creating a blend of “Wild West meets futuristic” aesthetics, which was evident in the creative denim “bareback” jeans and the action-figure-like wearable prosthetics that accentuated certain body parts. Lantink is not revealing everything, but he is emphasizing the heroism in women, stating, “I admire the idea of women as action figures. I believe everyone should feel empowered to shape their own identity and not feel constrained by anything.
