Drake lost a large bet on the New England Patriots in the 2026 Super Bowl, which Seattle won 29-13. The loss led many online to joke about the “Drake Curse” being real, suggesting his presence somehow causes the teams he supports to lose.
Drake announced on Instagram before the game that he’d bet $1 million on the Patriots, even playfully challenging others to bet against him. If the Patriots had won, he would have won nearly $2.95 million. However, the team lost, and the bet quickly became a widely discussed topic.

Fans immediately responded to the news. Many playfully blamed Drake’s support for the Patriots’ likely loss, while others joked they’d always bet against any team he favored. One fan commented that the Patriots had already lost, and another wrote, “Drake, I like you, but you seem to bring bad luck when it comes to sports betting.”
Mark Wahlberg, a well-known supporter of the New England Patriots, publicly agreed with Drake’s choice, simply writing, “SMART MAN.” However, the main conversation online continued to center around the long-standing belief that Drake is somehow cursed.
The “Drake Curse” is a long-standing belief among fans that any team or athlete publicly supported by Drake tends to lose shortly afterward.
People frequently point to Drake’s sports bets as examples of his losses. He famously lost $60,000 on the NBA Finals in 2016. More recently, in 2025, he bet over $1 million on the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, and they didn’t win. He also wagered another million on the Toronto Maple Leafs before they were defeated by the Florida Panthers.
Drake has addressed the “Drake Curse” before, even joking about it in an interview. He said he finds the idea amusing and used the Toronto Raptors’ 2019 NBA championship win as evidence that it’s not true. He specifically mentioned that if the curse existed, Kawhi Leonard wouldn’t have made the winning shot against the Warriors, but since they won, he believes the curse is just a funny notion.
Despite his success, he acknowledged he isn’t very good at sports betting, admitting he’s a “flawed bettor.” He joked that people will likely continue to blame a supposed curse on his bets because they rarely win – or, as he put it, “my slips do not cash out.”
Currently, Seattle’s victory has amplified the online buzz surrounding Drake’s bets. It seems fans are eagerly anticipating the results whenever he places a significant wager.
