As a fan who’s been riding the rollercoaster of hip-hop for decades now, I can say that the genre never ceases to surprise us with its twists and turns. Young Thug’s recent release from jail has sent ripples through the rap community, and the anticipation for his comeback is palpable.
Here’s the thing about hip-hop: It moves super fast, because today’s rap star can become tomorrow’s old news in a blink. At one time, Young Thug was considered one of rap’s superstars but since being arrested in May 2022 on RICO charges and spending more than two years behind bars, his music career has taken a hit.
Just outta the slammer on Halloween of this very year, after copping to some pretty heavy charges – drugs, weapons, and gang stuff. Not long after, I’m spotted hangin’ with T.I., makin’ it look like we were cookin’ up something in a studio. Fast forward to a few days ago, I was back in the booth with Future, Lil Baby, and Travis Scott, so it seems my next project is comin’ at ya sooner rather than later. But before Thugger Hawk drops a new album, ol’ DJ Akademiks threw a warning my way.

Akademiks said, “Thug, if your debut album isn’t hotter than the one Gunna recently released, buddy, we might have to say we don’t need any more. You see, Thug has been in prison and I’m not sure how up-to-date he is on what’s happening in the world outside. Here’s the deal: When you step into the studio, Baby is like a block of ice. So if you think you were going to create some heat, you need to melt that ice first… If you believe you are about to produce mediocre music and think we will replace Gunna, who is producing pure cocaine-grade crack, that’s not going to happen.
As a passionate gamer, I’m throwing my two cents into the ring: Young Thug better drop an explosive album, or else he’s underestimating the loyalty of Gunna Wunna fans. And let me tell you, if Le Bebé thinks he can waltz back into the studio, he’s got another thing coming 😭💀

Previously, Gunna was detained alongside Thug and members of their YSL collective. However, in the year 2022, he managed to secure his release following a plea deal on RICO charges. There have been allegations suggesting that he ratted out Thug, but Gunna has categorically denied these accusations.
In 2023, Gunna unveiled his album titled “A Gift & a Curse“, which was met with widespread appreciation, and some of the accusations against him seemed to diminish. The same trend occurred following the release of his 2024 album “One of Wun“. However, these allegations reappeared after Thugger was accused of criticizing him in a now-deleted tweet. He is being accused of posting, “Gunna, stop pretending we’re friends online, I don’t actually know you.
It’s safe to say that whenever he drops new music, it’ll be compared to Gunna’s releases.
