Disney has opted to ditch a Marvel release date and instead go with a new movie for The Simpsons.
I was really looking forward to a Marvel Studios movie on July 23, 2027, but I just found out that date is now going to be used for a new The Simpsons movie instead! It’s a bit unexpected, but I’m still excited to see what they do with it.
I’ve been hearing a lot lately about Disney shifting its strategy. Apparently, they’re trying to win back Gen Z by concentrating on original stories, rather than relying so heavily on the Marvel and Star Wars universes. It seems like the buzz around Marvel is dying down, and they’re realizing it’s no longer a sure thing. It’s a big change, and honestly, a little surprising, but it makes sense if they want to attract a younger audience. There’s been talk that Marvel is on the decline, and that’s a pretty significant shift in the landscape.
What was the Marvel movie?
The upcoming Marvel film still doesn’t have a confirmed release date, but it was originally planned to be released between Doomsday and Secret Wars.
We don’t know what the MCU film might have been about, but it’s noteworthy that this aligns with rumors that Shang-Chi 2 isn’t in development. This speculation is fueled by Simu Liu’s recent comments about Superman and a photo he shared on Instagram.
It’s widely known that Marvel decided to postpone Blade. Some fans initially believed the 2027 release date was intended for Doctor Strange 3. However, that won’t be the case.
Now that the July 2027 release has been canceled, only one Marvel movie is currently scheduled to come out in 2027: Secret Wars (see the schedule below).
MCU on a big hiatus
After Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, and Fantastic Four didn’t do as well as expected, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is taking a break before releasing Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.
Sony’s Spider-Man 4 also gets released prior.
What about The Simpsons?
Regarding the new The Simpsons movie, not much is known.
The Simpsons Movie was released in theaters in July 2007, earning $74 million on its opening weekend. It ultimately grossed $183 million domestically and $536 million globally. Directed by David Silverman, the film demonstrated that a popular TV show could still be a box office success, something Disney is hoping to repeat with a new film planned for 2027.
