As a seasoned gamer of life, I can confidently say that Shwayze is a breath of fresh air in the often tumultuous world of hip-hop. With a career spanning over a decade and a sound that’s as laid-back as a day at the beach, he embodies the perfect blend of authenticity and genre-bending creativity.
39-year-old Shwayze’s music, played poolside, is easygoing, relaxed, genuine, and it provides a refreshing break after a summer filled with conflicts, hit singles, and an evolving hip-hop scene. With his new album, “Shwaycation,” Aaron Smith invites listeners to join him on a musical journey, blending various genres that exude self-assuredness and fun.
The Shwayze Sound
Moving ahead to 2024, Shwayze’s music resonates deeply with an audience that appreciates artists who grow together. Pausing thoughtfully, he reflects on the evolution of his sound. “Well, I believe my melodies have improved,” he muses. “I think I still capture that upbeat mood from the initial album, but it’s evolved a bit.” He explains, “Many artists lose their original spark after a decade, but I feel mine is still there, just transformed.
Shwayze’s goals beyond the music

Smith’s pursuits extend beyond music. He has made appearances in “The Lincoln Lawyer” as a father seeking a break and collaborated with Quinta Brunson in “Abbott Elementary”. Since childhood, Shwayze has harbored a passion for acting. “I look for things that ignite my curiosity, my enthusiasm,” he says eagerly. “Acting is just so enjoyable. Whenever I get an audition, everything else fades away and I need to focus on it. I’m definitely giving it my best shot.
As a passionate fan, I’ve always noticed a figurative box that Shwayze seems to steer clear of in his career choices, which sets him apart from the crowd. A niche corner of the internet has been quite vocal about their criticism towards the hip-hop industry, claiming that the popular artists have essentially morphed into one colossal entity. In an industry that thrives on a specific vibe and persona, Shwayze continues to maintain his unique identity, which he’s comfortable with.
“I don’t even know if I fit in the industry, so I’m not really concerned with it,” he admits. “I think just doing my own thing and focusing on my core fan base has served me well. I don’t care if it’s 100 or 1000 fans. My focus is on them and not the industry.”
Shwayze’s Playlist
Shwayze’s unique approach to music sets him apart from many rappers, as he showcases a diverse mix of influences and an eclectic taste in music. Unlike others who focus heavily on lyrics, Shwayze doesn’t worry too much about them. Instead, he prefers artists like Dominic Fike, Forest Frank, and Lenny Kravitz and instrumentalists such as PACHYMAN whose work resonates most with him. He admits that he enjoys instrumental pieces that allow him to think and come up with his own ideas. Songs can become boring for him, but if they’re classics or oldies, he loves them. However, he feels that he needs to expose himself to more music, especially since an album is on the way, leaving little time.
Shwayze’s vacation-themed tour touched down on September 13, followed closely by a series of shows. Born and raised in Malibu, Shwayze has been dropping tracks from his upcoming project, giving fans a sneak peek at some exciting collaborations – including a feature from Wiz Khalifa. The song “Smoke Too Soon” takes listeners to a sunny coastline with lyrics drifting like a gentle breeze. For many, the team-up between Shwayze and Wiz was a long-awaited musical collaboration. When asked about his experience working alongside the “Black and Yellow” rapper, Shwayze expressed optimism that this wouldn’t be their only joint effort. “I think we could collaborate again for sure,” he says. “I think this collaboration really brought us together. This song was almost like destiny.” His words reveal a sense of gratitude, offering insight into Shwayze’s perspective on his accomplishments and his role in the industry.
A look into FeelGood Entertainment
In simple terms, Smith sees fame as having dedicated fans and producing quality music, without aiming for the top spot. He wants his music to bring joy to listeners and possibly discover upcoming artists. FeelGood Entertainment is Smith’s self-financed label where he shares and develops artists, with plans to create TV and film projects in the future. As Smith puts it, managing artists has always been a dream of his. “It wasn’t so long ago that I was chasing my own dreams,” he says, expressing a desire to fully manage an artist under his label. He takes this responsibility seriously and emphasizes the importance of nurturing new talent by drawing on his experience as an artist for over a decade to guide someone else in the industry. Aware of his veteran status, Smith intends to use it wisely.
With Shwayze, you get what you see – upbeat soundtracks perfect for lively gatherings seeking fun times, music ideal for those yearning for a coastal getaway via their headphones. He’s fully on board with the notion that his work embodies carefree vibes, a quality he intentionally cultivated from the start.
Shwayze states that he believes this music is an ideal soundtrack for everyone starting their vacation. While there’s deeper meaning throughout the songs, they remain uplifting and full of love.
