On a Saturday, we bid farewell to Devon Walker as he finishes his third season with the venerable NBC comedy series, “Saturday Night Live”. He’s been quite open about his time on this iconic late-night program.
On August 25, the comedian announced the news through an Instagram post, questioning in a title whether he had resigned or been dismissed: “Hold up…did he resign or was he let go?
In his post, Walker mentioned that he and the show had been partners for three years. Occasionally, it was very enjoyable. Other times, it was incredibly harmful. Yet, they managed to make the best of the situation, despite all the chaos and dysfunction.
The 34-year-old expressed on his post that he had parted ways with the baby, accompanied by a heart emoji. In another Instagram story, he characterized his leaving as “positive news” and noted, “I felt it was high time for me to explore something new.

In 2022, Walker made his debut on Saturday Night Live together with Michael Longfellow, Marcello Hernandez, and Molly Kearney. This news follows closely on the heels of writer Celeste Yim’s statement from the previous day, indicating that they would be departing the program after having spent five successful seasons there.
On Instagram, Yim shared that the job had transformed her dreams into reality, yet confessed it was extremely demanding, causing her to spend nights at the office each week.
It’s not surprising that, in the case of SNL, there have been changes in cast members during breaks between seasons. In fact, as we look back to Season 49 in 2024, Molly Kearney, Punkie Johnson, and Chloe Troast parted ways, making room for fresh faces to join the show’s lineup.
Later on, Troast clarified that she hadn’t decided to depart, instead confessing, “I wasn’t offered a return. I yearned to go back and be reunited with all the wonderful friends I forged there, as it felt like my home. However, it seemed destiny had other plans.
Walker’s announcement was made shortly following the conclusion of Saturday Night Live’s historic 50th season, which aired a prime-time special. As speculation swirled among fans regarding potential departures leading up to the finale, the show itself didn’t provide any clear goodbyes in that episode.
In a light-hearted moment during the hosting, Scarlett Johansson made a jest about Sarah Sherman supposedly departing. However, when this was announced, Sarah appeared bewildered and taken aback.
During the latest edition of Weekend Update, there were whispers that Colin Jost could potentially leave his position for a chance to succeed Lorne Michaels. However, Michaels has denied this speculation in a recent interview with Puck.
He shared that the original cast was maintained for Season 50 to prevent any potential disturbances, but hinted at changes for Season 51. Michaels affirmed that James Austin Johnson would resume his role as Donald Trump in the upcoming season.
SNL is set to return with Season 51 on October 4.
