Death Stranding Animated Series Heads to Disney+ in 2027

The world of Death Stranding is growing! Hideo Kojima announced Death Stranding Isolations – a new, hand-drawn animated series – at a Disney+ event. It’s planned to stream in 2027 and will be Kojima Productions’ first collaboration with a major streaming service, bringing the Death Stranding story to a wider audience beyond PlayStation.

Kojima and Sano Announce the Series

Hideo Kojima and director Takayuki Sano revealed the news to a large audience at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. They also presented new concept art created by Ilya Kuvshinov, the artist behind Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045. The animation is being produced by Sano’s studio, E&H Production.

Kojima explained that Disney+ reached out to him during the production of the 2023 documentary Hideo Kojima: Connecting Worlds, leading to this new partnership. He believes adapting Death Stranding into an animated series will let him develop concepts best suited for animation and connect with an audience beyond gamers.

A New Story in the Death Stranding Universe

Death Stranding: Isolations is a new story set in the world of the Death Stranding games. It follows a young man and woman as they journey across a broken America. The animation is traditionally hand-drawn in 2D, created by talented artists at E&H Production.

This story delves into themes of loneliness, human connection, and what it takes to survive when the line between the living and the dead blurs, creating new dangers. Though Sam Bridges is still on his own journey, the series focuses on a new set of characters who must confront these threats.

Their paths cross as the world sits on the brink once again.

How the Franchise Continues to Grow

The first Death Stranding game was released in 2019 and has been played by over 20 million people. Known for its impressive visuals and emphasis on building connections between people, it’s become a defining game for creator Hideo Kojima. The sequel, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, came out on PlayStation 5 in June 2025.

The franchise is also moving into film with an adaptation in development at A24.
