I’ve spoken with my sources again after wondering: if the plans to revive Zack Snyder‘s vision move forward, what will become of James Gunn’s role at DC?
We previously reported that James Gunn is likely to lose his position as head of DC Studios if Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) is sold. Following that report, Gunn himself publicly wondered about his future with the company. He’s currently concentrating solely on his “Superman Family Saga” project, rather than the broader DC Universe plan he initially revealed, and sources say this is because he anticipates a sale will happen.

Paramount and Political Pressure Complicate Gunn’s Position
We also heard that if David Ellison and Paramount were to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, James Gunn would likely lose his position. Ellison has ties to Donald Trump, and a recent report from Variety confirmed our previous information: Paramount is shifting towards a more conservative political stance.
James Gunn has a history of working with conservatives, but his plans for the DC Universe have been seen as politically controversial, even leaning progressive – a concern for any potential owner with ties to Donald Trump.

Saudis Now the Frontrunner to Buy WBD
The landscape shifted again when the Saudis emerged as the frontrunner to purchase WBD.
According to the Hollywood producer who first dropped the news, the deal is “one signature away.”
Sources close to the situation suggest that if Saudi Arabia acquires DC Studios, Zack Snyder could regain creative control of the DC Universe, potentially reviving the SnyderVerse. There’s also a possibility Christopher Nolan might join the project as an executive producer.
We’ve been told the Saudis want to return the SnyderVerse to rival Marvel and Avengers: Doomsday.

Could Two DC Universes Coexist?
I directly asked those in the know about James Gunn’s position at DC. I even suggested that, given their massive financial resources, the Saudis might be open to supporting two different DC cinematic universes: one continuing Zack Snyder’s vision, and another led by Gunn.
I’ve heard that despite Saudi connections to Trump, there’s a possibility Gunn might still be involved in the project, perhaps even working with them in some way.
According to sources familiar with the situation, Saudi Arabia is expected to prioritize stability initially, preferring to maintain the status quo rather than cause disruptions.

Gunn Has Deferred to Snyder
Sources close to the situation have pointed out that James Gunn has historically followed Zack Snyder’s lead, implying Gunn might have an idea of what’s planned.
As the sale gets closer, people are focusing on what they need to do and preparing for different possibilities.
Interestingly, both James Gunn and Peter Safran began their careers at Universal Pictures with the film Dawn of the Dead. There are also reports that Universal is considering a bid to buy Warner Bros. Discovery, and may team up with investors from Saudi Arabia to do so.
We’ve also been told many times that Gunn and Snyder are friends.

SnyderVerse Actors Already Being Positioned
Sources say Pierce Brosnan recently mentioned he’d be open to reprising his role as Dr. Fate, and there’s been growing talk about other actors from Zack Snyder’s DC films potentially returning for future projects.
Snyder’s own steady drip of DCEU images has only fueled that speculation.
According to sources familiar with the situation, there’s a lot of groundwork being laid for potential returns of characters from the previous DC Universe overseen by Zack Snyder.
