David Gilmour gets his live fix earlier than expected with impromptu song

As a lifelong Pink Floyd fan and someone who has followed David Gilmour‘s career since the early days, I must say that seeing him casually drop by his daughter’s gig and play an impromptu rendition of “Wish You Were Here” was nothing short of magical. It’s moments like these that remind us all why we love music so much – it brings people together in ways that few other things can.

It’s been quite a few days for David Gilmour. His new album Luck And Strange was released on Friday. It had been a long wait since the previous album, Rattle And Lock back in 2015.

Additionally, he’s preparing to embark on a live concert tour to publicize the album. Given that we rarely get to witness Gilmour performing live, there’s a great deal of anticipation surrounding this tour. At present, he and his band are immersed in rehearsals for it.

In the midst of my busy schedule, I managed to find some free time and, let me tell you, I was itching to get back to live performances. So, when an opportunity presented itself, I seized it! Recently, I had the pleasure of entertaining my daughter Romany and a bunch of pub-goers in Hove, near Brighton, England. My social media posts give more details about this delightful event, along with some amazing footage. As a gamer, I can say that this was a level-up moment for me!

David Gilmour happily crashes his daughter’s gig

As a gamer, I was thrilled to lend my voice on my dad’s latest album, belting out the captivating track “Between Two Points”. Maintaining that bond, I surprised his audience by showing up, or as he put it, “crashing” his daughter’s pub gig. It’s just a quick video snippet, but those special moments are priceless.

Looking at him, we notice him preparing his acoustic guitar and propose an unexpected performance of the timeless Pink Floyd song “Wish You Were Here”. If he’s game for it, count us in! The crowd’s faces light up with excitement as well.

Gilmour’s tour begins later this month in Rome, then heads to London and various US dates. He had previously mentioned not playing Pink Floyd songs, but given the wealth of fantastic tunes available, it feels like a missed opportunity to exclude them completely.

In a recent chat, Gilmour acknowledged that some beloved tunes might be featured at his upcoming concerts. It’s quite probable that “Comfortably Numb” will make an appearance, while “Money” seems unlikely. Does this casual performance hint that “Wish You Were Here” is a must-play favorite, or perhaps a fun moment for him to perform with his daughter as a change from the other songs during rehearsals? Only time will reveal the answer. Until then, let’s appreciate the sneak peek he provided.
