Summary
- Mindhunter might return as three two-hour movies, according to star Holt McCallany
- McCallany confirmed director/showrunner David Fincher mentioned this possibility, with writers currently working
- The Netflix series ran for two seasons until 2019
David Fincher’s “Mindhunter” might not produce another full season, but it could reappear through a different medium – potentially as three films.
Holt McCallany, who portrayed FBI Special Agent Bill Tench on the Netflix series, recently discussed with CBR the possibility of the show’s return. In a conversation with director David Fincher, he was told that there might be a revival in the form of three two-hour films. However, McCallany emphasized that it is just a potential opportunity, stating, “I think it’s just a chance.” He also mentioned that writers are currently working on scripts, but the success of the project depends on Fincher’s satisfaction with those scripts.
As a gamer, I’ve just finished drafting a script that this legendary director took the time to provide feedback on. We spent nearly three years going back and forth with script revisions, and every single detail was scrutinized by him. That’s why I believe he’s the top dog in Hollywood when it comes to directing.
McCallany said, “During our meeting, he provided a glimmer of hope. However, it would take an extraordinary alignment – like the sun, moon, and stars coming together – for that hope to fully materialize.
The TV series “Mindhunter” featured McCallany and Jonathan Groff as FBI Special Agent Holden Ford, delving into the early stages of the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit and the emergence of criminal profiling. It was inspired by the 1995 true crime book “Mindhunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit” written by John E. Douglas and Mark Olshaker. Spanning over two seasons from 2017 to 2019, the show unfortunately did not continue as Netflix reportedly decided against renewal due to its high production costs.
