Crunchyroll Delivers Disappointing News About ‘Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle’

Crunchyroll has announced that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba fans will have to be patient for the home release of the newest movie, Infinity Castle. The film, officially named Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle – Part 1: Akaza Returns, first launched in Japan on July 18th, and is now available in some Asian countries thanks to Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Releasing. It will be a bit before it’s available elsewhere.

The movie was a huge success in theaters, earning $616 million around the world. It became the top-performing Japanese film of 2025 and ranked as the seventh-highest-grossing film worldwide that year.

Different from previous anime collections, Infinity Castle is a complete adaptation of the “Infinity Castle” story arc from Koyoharu Gotouge’s original manga. It picks up where the fourth season of the anime left off, and continues the narrative established in the earlier films, Mugen Train (2020), To the Swordsmith Village (2023), and To the Hashira Training (2024).

The movie has received positive feedback for its stunning visuals, exciting action sequences, and engaging storyline. However, a few reviewers mentioned that the rhythm of the film felt a bit inconsistent at times.

Even though the movie has been a big hit in theaters, Crunchyroll isn’t planning to release it online just yet. Popverse reports that Mitchel Berger, Crunchyroll’s Executive Vice President of Global Commerce, confirmed the streaming release won’t be available in 2024. Currently, it will remain exclusively in cinemas.

“You absolutely should watch [Demon Slayer Infinity Castle] on the big screen! It won’t be available anywhere else in 2025, so the theater is the only place to experience it,” he explained.

As a huge cinema fan, I’m hearing that to see this film as it’s meant to be seen, we’ll all have to go to theaters this year. There won’t be any way to stream it at home until at least 2026. It seems like the studio is really hoping to make a lot of money at the box office, and while I understand that, it’s definitely a bummer for those of us who prefer watching at home. It’s a bit frustrating, honestly. Hopefully it’ll be worth the wait!
