The creators of Crosswind, the group working on the forthcoming pirate survival-crafting game Crosswind, express deep respect and understanding towards the developers of Skull and Bones, Ubisoft’s ambitious, high-budget pirate project.
During a presentation of Crosswind at Gamescom 2025, a crew member told DBLTAP: “I think that project was quite challenging for the team, and as a fellow game developer, I understand the difficult path they chose. I truly admire the team’s dedication that led to the game’s release.
Due to numerous setbacks during its creation, Skull and Bones gained notoriety online as a constantly delayed video game. Eventually released in 2024, unfortunately, the game failed to gain significant success, leading to even more internet jokes about it. To add salt to the wound, an executive’s claim that the game would be the world’s first “quadruple-A” title led to additional mockery when the game did not live up to expectations.
Crosswind Crew continued to stand by Ubisoft, asserting that they often receive more criticism than they deserve: “While there have been many criticisms levied against them, I believe that Ubisoft is frequently targeted unfairly. This company is exceptional, and when you consider their Assassin’s Creed series, for example, they face a great deal of negative publicity, which is unwarranted. In truth, there are only a handful of companies globally capable of producing games as remarkable as these.
