Cries of ‘Free Durk’ ring loud after Lil Durk is arrested in murder-for-hire plot

As a long-time fan who has watched Lil Durk rise from the streets of Chicago to become one of the most influential voices in hip-hop, this latest turn of events feels like a punch to the gut. The news of his arrest on charges of murder-for-hire is shocking and heartbreaking, especially given his recent public statements about wanting to live a calmer, drama-free life.

On Thursday, October 24, it’s been widely shared that Lil Durk was taken into custody in Broward County, Florida, and this surprising news is causing a stir among social media users.

He is facing charges for alleged contract killing, as federal authorities claim he hired a team to assassinate rapper Quando Rondo in 2022. However, it was Quando Rondo’s cousin Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson who was killed instead of him while he was in Los Angeles.

Prior to Durk’s apprehension, a group of five individuals from his hometown Chicago were indicted: Keith Jones, Asa Houston, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Kavon London Grant, and David Brian Lindsey. It was alleged that Durk’s record label OTF covered the cost of their flight to Los Angeles and leased the vehicle involved in Robinson’s murder.

As a gamer, I’ve been keeping tabs on the situation with Durk, the “All My Life” rapper. According to Akademiks TV, if he’s found guilty, he could face the death penalty or life in prison. Yet, there are voices advocating for his immediate release. These are some of the “Free Durk” messages I’ve seen floating around.

It is said that the plan to assassinate Rondo was retaliation for the murder of OTF rapper King Von. In the year 2020, a fight between Von and Rondo occurred, which resulted in Rondo’s friend, Timothy “Lul Tim” Leeks, shooting and fatally wounding him.

Interestingly enough, despite his earlier posts on social media this month praising a peaceful, drama-free life, Durk has found himself embroiled in controversies again. He had tweeted, “Feels good not to be in drama and not dealing with the nonsense,” and added, “My name remains clean; I’ve been doing well financially, making music… Keep going.

Durk composed the message even after the mother of the late rapper FBG Duck filed a lawsuit claiming wrongful death. In this lawsuit, she alleged that both Durk and Von had placed a $100,000 price on her son’s life.

According to HipHopDX’s report, it was common knowledge to Lil Durk by 2020 that King Von harbored a grudge against FBG Duck, had intentions of robbery and murder within the music industry, and aimed to establish a violent and reality rap persona centered around actually carrying out acts of violence against FBG Duck and the public at large.

Back in January of this year, a group of individuals labeled as gang affiliates were found guilty for the murder of FBG Duck, which occurred in the year 2020.
