Colin Farrell and the directing duo known as the Russo Brothers are collaborating on a new film project based on a comic book. Despite Farrell’s current work with DC Comics as The Penguin and the Russos’ history with Marvel, this project is separate from both of those universes. The film, titled Ordained, is based on an upcoming indie comic from publisher Bad Idea, and will star Farrell as a priest in an action-thriller. The Russo Brothers’ production company, AGBO, will produce the film, with the screenplay written by Derek Kolstad, who also penned the John Wick movies.
In the upcoming film, Ordained, Colin Farrell plays Father Roy Craig, a priest who performs last rites for a powerful mob boss. Miraculously, the mob boss survives, and after confessing his crimes to Father Roy, he sends criminals and corrupt police officers after him to prevent the priest from revealing his secrets. However, Father Roy isn’t as innocent as he seems – he has a hidden, violent past that equips him to handle the danger. Despite his past, he’s committed to his faith and refuses to kill. The film shares a similar action-packed feel with John Wick, which makes sense, as it’s written by the same screenwriter.
I’m really curious to see if Colin Farrell’s tough priest character can become the next big action star, kind of like Keanu Reeves with John Wick. It definitely feels like it has that potential! If you’re a fan and want to get a head start on the story, the comic book – written by Robert Venditti (Green Lantern) with art by Trevor Hairsine (Judge Dredd, X-Men) and colors by Dave Stewart – comes out December 10th. It’ll give you a good feel for what the movie might be like. As for another project called Ordained, there’s no news on when that’s coming out yet, but I’m definitely keeping an eye on both of these!
